On abandoning dreams too easily...

So...

Last night I dreamt that I did a total re-do on my blog.

I made it into a kinda/sorta PW blog that was even cooler then hers.

Because...

In my dream I wrote every single day on every single subject that I see in blogs.

Oh yea.

I had a tab for cooking, and crafts, and philosophy, and gardening, and decorating, and (are those commas supposed to be in there, by the way?) science fiction, and art, and history, and farm life...

Yea.

This was a rockin' blog I built in my dreams.

And I came to my office this morning intent on making this dream a reality. And I opened up my blog screen.

And I saw my cool typewriter thing-y at the top and I read my tagline and I realized...

I'm an idiot.

There is no way I could write all those things every single day and still have time to pee.

There is no way I could ever get my sparkler-brain focused enough to write on specific subjects at specific times.

There is no way I would ever, ever share all those Le Creuset and KitchenAid things she gives away. I would hoard them. And pat them. And look at them. And gloat.

And since I realized all these things, honestly, I finally had to admit to myself...

...

That I am weak.

...

And unorganized.

...

And unfocused.

...

And I am too addicted to using words in the wrong way and sighs and ....'s to ever, ever be Pioneer Woman.
...
and nothing can make me feel better about it...

unless...

...

unless...

I win one of her giveaways. Seriously. I think a new Le Creuset pan would make everything right in my world.

Is that shallow?

Is that abandoning my dream too easily?

Oh well.

It's Monday.

And it was just a dream.

Sigh.

PS My oldest daughter used to say "I see the hook but I'm not biting" and I'm not fishing for compliments here...I am, however, fishing for any le creuset pans you might have won from Pioneer Woman and don't really want...you can keep the Kitchenaid mixer you won, though...since I already have one!....ha!

Jenny, I think your dream is real life. You ARE all these things! I love coming here. I get inspired, I learn something new, and most of all...I LAUGH MY BUTT OFF! If you could see the size of my butt, you would see this as a good thing (not my butt, the humor).

Theresa said...

I am not PW either:) I am more like you, nuts! We'll just be the way we are and that's OK. At least, I say it's OK. Have a fun day!

MrsJenB said...

You are YOU and you have a ton of followers and people who love your blog for who YOU are! Your strengths are your writing and your humor and you use them well.

But yeah, winning one of her giveaways would make my life better, too.

:-)

Well, Jenny, PW may be the rockingest chiquita YOU know about, but I think you are worthy of the crown. You're honest and sincere and open. Be as good to yourself as we want to be to you. You deserve that. Don't call my friend Jenny bad things, please.

Unknown said...

Don't you dare change a thing my dear! You are a treasure just the way you are, and never fail to make me laugh, or cry, or both...

Besides it makes me feel better about my own random assortment of ramblings on my own blog ;) !
I even made "pages" to try and organize myself ... hasn't worked yet; but that's OK.

Have a great week!

Blessings,
Catherine ... who is wayyyy behind in visiting her fellow Alphabe-Thursday friends so she needs to quick rambling and get to reading ..... ;) !

WHAT??? YOU ARE NOT PIONEER WOMAN! I have been seriously misled here! I am beyond stunned..I mean the giveaways, the laughter, photos(you do post photos sometimes right?) maybe I am dreaming! Le Creuset pans? Honey those things are heavy! Sigh.....now where is the link for PW???

I love to read your post and get a good laugh.

You always make me laugh...we can't all be PW...though I'm trying and failing miserably...LOL! I think a Le Creuset pan would definitely make everything well in the world and I hope you win one.

You are very very witty... and I am a new follower!

Thanks for visiting my blog, too... I do love This Old House, and all the sawdust that comes with it :-)

Hey Jenny! Do you remember the first time I somehow stumbled across your blog, and I asked you how you did the wonderful typewriter and keys thingy with your name on it??!! You ROCK! And none of us need to be anyone other than who we are. We can strive to be a "better" us, if that's possible, but not a "different" us! Especially when you're so fabulous in the first place! This also reminded me of when tons of women wanted to be like Martha, Martha, Martha!....I can't do it...I never even tried...I have other things to do...like write!!

I don't even know who PW is. You're the one that rocks my world, baby!
Your post reminded me of a dream I had, where I saw a portfolio of artwork that I did. And I thought "wow that's incredible. When I wake up I'm going to paint these in real life." Of course, I didn't remember any of them, and the few that I did remember were lame.

Anita said...

You speak for a lot of bloggers, I'm sure. :)
We all want to have perfect, entertaining, informative, and interesting things to say...well a lot of us.
I think we're doing okay...right?

Nancy C said...

I love this. I have a blog of my dreams and the blog of my reality as well.

I think having our own personal touch is always better. That's what I keep telling myself.

You made me laugh again. Out loud. I, for one, am glad you are a real person.

B-Dub said...

I long ago gave up any hope of winning anything from ol' PW. But if you have any takers on the pans and wind up with far too many you can always send some this way :)

lissa said...

it's a nice, sweet dream, though I have no idea what a le creuset pan looks like but it sounds very nice and anything that has a french-like name always sounds elegant to me....

Michelle said...

I love your post! Thanks for keeping it real! PS. I don't have a pan either. :(

Pat @ Mille Fiori Favoriti said...

Jenny my husband read your comment on my blog before I did and called me up from work to read it to me ..we were both laughing so hard!

PW is such a phenomena -- I follow her on facebook and if she writes something like "I have my hair in a scrungy today" 700 people "like" it ! lol

I wish I had a le creuset casserole pan too! I'd sit and admire it all day :-)

♥ Pat

PS all my tests came out good! WHEW!! so happy!

Brenda said...

I already have a Kitchen Aid also so if I would win the Le Creuset pan I think I would have a hard time parting with it. I think I have a better chance winning with you than PW.

Holly Lefevre said...

You do not need to be PW you are JM! Even better! Sorry no Le Creuset to pas son...

Red Couch Recipes said...

Okay, so I am new to blogging and didn't know who PW was, but I DO know who Jenny is and I enjoy your blogging. Joni

dreams certainly do reveal our longings to soar...but you're so right, we also need the balance of our feet on the ground & time to pee! (loved that observation of yours!) thanks for your visit/lovely to meet you!

Live.Love.Eat said...

You know, as much as she is wonderful her site is not a blog to me. It's a website and I do believe she has help in what she does now so that she can pee.

If I do come across a spare Le Creuset I'll let you know....

I've got a Le Creuset but you can't have it! :)

You are so funny.
I want a Le Creuset pan too. In lime green please.
I don't read PW. Not sure why.
I really only read blogs by peeps who read mine.
And I don't know anyone giving away that crazy kind of stuff.
I did win a great cookbook from some nice lady in AZ recently though...

Just be yourself. That's all any of us can do. And you'd be better off entering giveaways at blogs that don't have many readers. Better odds. :)

I like your daughters saying....gonna have to remember that...

Trust me your blog is much better ;0)

Hey-PW had to start somewhere!

Besides...I win stuff on your blog:) I spent my Michaels card tonight...as soon as I have the energy I will post what I bought. I'm in a hotel room, on the way to my mom. She is still in the hospital...this is a scary time for all of us, mostly for her. I just wanted to check in and see what you were up to.

It wouldn't hurt my feelings to win a camera from her!!!

You are so funny! I see the appeal of the Pioneer Woman but...we all have something to contribute to the blogosphere. I like yours here:-)

Justine said...

Oh please, PW doesn't have anything on you! Well, except for those expensive pans.

I rarely even go to her site anymore because I don't like feeling like a grain of sand among millions.

I'll take me some Jenny over PW any day!

Justine :o )

Matlock, You are funny AND clever!!! The only thing you left out was the color of your kitchen! PW is wonderful, but I don't read her; I read you.

Carol said...

PW ain't near as awesome as YOU! Besides...just go buy the pot...there is no way to win that stuff on her blog!

Kita said...

I think your blog is cute. Im always wanting to change mine and make it better - but then I realize that aint happening.
Thanks for the comments on http://passthesushi.com (I need all I can get - lol).

I'd take you over PW any day. As others have said, her site (and I don't consider it a blog either) is just way too big with too much going on.

And I'd have better luck of a whirlwind romance with George Clooney than winning those Le Creuset pans :)

Kim Lehnhoff said...

PW doesn't have a blog, she has a conglomerate...who needs those adminstrative headaches?

And she has someone else working on her pages, BTW.

So just do what you do...and we will come (and look, I even commented).

Prairiemaid said...

Any particular color? LOL

Actually, I dream of Magnum, P.I. instead of PW....you need to stop eating that pizza before bed. hahaha

Anonymous said...

Jenny: If it makes you feel any better...I don't even know who PW is.Is she fun?? If not, I'm stayin right here, missy....although I could be tempted by some kitchen gagets...hmmmmm?

Tara said...

Her blog is amazing. She can't possibly do it all by herself now, can she? She has to have help and contributors by now, right? It sounds like she is certainly having some fabulous giveaways!
I don't think you need to change a thing about your blog. I love it just the way it is!

nanny said...

I love your blog just the way it is!!! I do wish I knew how to make all of the tabs, lists, etc/ha Like I have the time too do it!

Cheryl said...

WTH is PW? See? I'm so out of the loop I don't even know where one goes to worship at the feet of this blog.

I love the looks of your blog. It's all words and delight. Who could ask for more? And burning question: who cooks?

jenn said...

so the first thing i thought when i saw your blog was cool background and cool header. revel in that.

Unknown said...

I've had blog envy before,ok admittedly most every day. I'm not as well spoken(written) as many blogs I read, and I don't post daily, and heck I don't even craft, so forget having a tab for them...ha ha.
You seem like me, a woman writing and blogging mostly for herself, and from the blogs you've linked today, you do it well.
Enjoy your BON day!

Too funny! I had to quit reading PW. It was giving me an inferiority complex.
