QUEEN ANNE'S LACE
In summers haze the dusty roads
are trimmed with Queen Anne’s lace.
Like bridal aisles, bedecked, adorned
with vintage nuptial grace.
Do you recall your childhood hours,
golden sunshine on your face,
when you made bouquets and fairy bowers,
festooned with Queen Anne’s lace?
I hope that in your memories,
you can recall the time and place
when all the dusty country roads
were trimmed in Queen Anne’s lace?

Queen Anne's Lace definitely reminds me of my childhood. It grew all over my family's farmhouse. It seems like I don't see it as often now. Maybe I am visiting the wrong places. :)
You are Quite a poet, Jenny and the Queen Anne's Lace is so pretty. Ours is all ice and snow covered right now, so you pictures were extra pretty to me.

i love Queen Ann's Lace, when I was a child I would pick big bouquets of it and bring them to my mother. She would promptly tell me "These are weeds" and throw them out! Oh well, I guess that beauty is in the eye of the beholder! I love a huge arrangment in a crystal vase!

I remember Queen Ann's lace. I just never knew what it was called. haha. What great use of the letter Q.

I remember being told when I was little that it was a weed and thinking it was too pretty to be a weed.

I don't know that I've seen Queen Anne's Lace since moving to the Southwest thought it is one of the flowers that dots the landscape of my childhood memories. Along with Devil's Paintbrush which was probably my favorite. :)

Oh Jenny I love that poem, thanks for sharing it. I use to walk along the fields when I was a kid and pick Queen Ann's Lace. I did not know what it was called back then. My mom always said it was a weed now we all try and grow it in with our perennial/wildflowers.

it is a beautiful poem and I love the name but I dont like the flower...Why you say? because I associate it with the nasty bugs that live in them where I come from...when I was a kid I called them the nasty bug flower.....ick.

It sure it pretty! It grows wild around here. I heard it is related to the carrot plant. (My friend who is a first grade teacher told me that.)
Don't laugh but in NH we call that... A WEED! OMG! I swear, that is considered a weed in NH! HAHAHAHA
I am a city girl as you know so I thought that was just the cutest darn thing the way it holds itself together and then POOF, it opens into the coolest flower and when I asked at the nursery they laughed at me. Yeah, I think it was "plant snub" in action. LOL! Anyway, that's how I know. We didn't have those in PR, or in Brooklyn (we had cement in our neighborhood and the gorgeous Botanical gardens just a LONG drive away!)

Oh, I love this post... and I had forgotten. As a girl I loved to gather Queen Anne's Lace along the dirt road tracks by my uncle and aunt's lake house where I visited each summer. Precious long green grasses and sunshine memory. Thank you. You captured it exactly (and beautifully).
Ah...the weed of my youth! I picked bouquet after bouquet for my mother growing up in New England. You just don't see it much any more, or maybe I need to get my childhood eyes back:)

I love Queen Anne's lace. We have some spotty stands of it in our pastures, but I do believe I'd like to plant more! It has such a simple, timeless beauty.
Lovely photo and poem of Queen Anne's lace...brings memories of when I was little...I would imagine that these were little clusters of even smaller bouquets...perfect posies for fairy weddings...I still love "minitatures" of anything...
