Day is done...
Gone the sun
From the lake...
From the hills...
From the sky.
All is well...
Safely rest
God is nigh.
Fading light....
Dims the sight
And a star....
Gems the sky....
Gleaming bright
From afar....
Drawing nigh
Falls the night.

Taps has always given me chills. Today we remember.
Blessings,
Susan
Nothing brings tears to my eyes quicker than that mournful sound. Today and all days we need to remember.
Happy Memorial Day, Jenny!
Beautiful photos, and wonderful poem to remember today.
There's nothing like the lonely sound of Taps as the sun sets....
Living where I do....I hear Taps played every night at 10pm. Sort of a melancholy but restful end to the day. Thanks for reminding us of the words. Have a peaceful Memorial day.
We don't celebrate memorial days here in Belgium or other European countries. It's rather sad that it exists. Without wars that wouldn't be necessary. So many lost lives for what ?
Thanks for dropping by my blog yesterday and a happy Memorial day to you too.
This is perfect for today!
A very important reminder. Thank you Jenny.
I caught Taps on PBS last night, so beautiful played, and I teared up, feeling the weight of love and loss.
Thank you Jenny. My dad was a POW in Germany in WWII. The only reason he made it out alive is that, since he was originally born in East Prussia and could speak/understand German, they used him as an interpreter for them with the other POW's.
Such a sad poem but perfect to honor those who gave the ultimate for us. Beautiful post.
Beautiful. Sad. Poignant. Thank you. Have a great day.
Although it is a sad song it is a great one!
Hugs, Lisa
Just heard a nine year old girls rendition, on trumpet, and it brought chills.
Oops, my blunder... she's 13.
Perfect for today. Happy Memorial Day:@)
i'm not sure i ever knew the lyrics for that. how horrible of me, right? but every time i hear the bugler play that, i tear up. that music tugs on my heart so well. thanks for posting this. :]
Is there anything that sounds more mournful than Taps from a far away hillside at the cemetary?
Thanks for your visit -- I just hang my aprons on hooks on my pantry door. Not really much of a display -- but always in sight in my kitchen.
Lovely post!!
Melinda
It's the kind of poem that gives you a knot in the throat while reading it...
Thanks.
Perfect Memorial Day post, Jenny. We have quite a few veterans on both mine and my husband's side of the family.
Taps is such a haunting melody. May we always remember all those that gave so much so we could live free.
I never knew the second verse. Thanks.
And I loved the pictures, too.
=)
Very solemn and dignified tribute, as befits the occasion.
love it <3
