Hey, can we talk about medical equipment here for a second?

This is important so pay attention. There may even be a pop quiz when we're done here.

Do you know how many cool kinds of thermometers they make now?

You know how they used to just have this kind of thermometer? For both ends?

Now they have colorful digital thermometers... ... and cute ones made for those of us with child-like hearts... ... and even these kind that are combination pacifier and thermometer ... ...although I'm not sure how long you would have to suck on that to get an accurate reading.

And I even googled online thermometer stores to give you a link but, weirdly, I couldn't find any.

And the reason I am providing this important medical equipment information today for you is because I like you.

And I worry about your health.

And I just wanted to help.

Because yesterday when I was hopping around the blogosphere I found that many of you were all suffering from the same malady...

...and since I am all about being helpful and kind I wanted to assist with your illness... So now you know what you can use to find out if you really have a raging case of Spring Fever!

You're welcome.

And guess what?

There isn't a pop quiz.

Cuz that would be dumb.

And weird.

And I would never, ever do anything like that here at JennyMatlock Off on my Tangent.

NoSirreeBob!

Sigh.

  2. Oh, thank you so much Jenny!! Since I'm over the hill (past 60) I never would have known this info without your assistance. LOL Actually, I didn't know about the "passi" one, sure would beat trying to hold down a little one to take temp in the other end, which I have done MANY times, 4 kiddos and 11 grands for us. Oh, by the way, you wouldn't use the long ended thermo for the other end, they are a short, fatter end. Love your blog

    Have a God Filled Day

  3. Good Morning Jenny...
So sweet of you to think about all of us. I think everyone has a little Spring Fever right now. I know with everything blooming out here right now in my family, we are all feeling it. Sneezing and coughing.

Well hope you have a blessed day. We have to turn in the menu tomorrow, so please email me if you can attend the luncheon. We would so love to have you, but totally understand if you can't make it.

Have a great day sweetie. Country hugs and much love, Sherry

  4. Thanks for stopping by my blog.

YOu know, I forgot about the old thermometer. I can't read those things to save my life! The digital ones are great! When my husband had surgery a few years ago, the nurse stuck one on his forhead. It was like a little strip of tape. That, was really neat!

  5. Jenny! How did you know I have a huge case of Spring Fever? I am also homesick but that is another illness for another day. I remember it taking me forever trying to read those old thermometer's. Now they can stick things in your ear also. That sounds like a whole different post...lol.

  6. And here I felt so special that you had noticed my stuffy nose and nasal voice when I last visited. Hrmph!

Thanks for lumping me in with all the *cheerful* people. >:-O

  7. My favorite thermometer is my Spongebob thermometer. It plays the Spongebob theme. And it makes me happy. Which is good when I have a thermometer in my mouth!

  8. My thermometers are bright sunny yellow. Yes, I have several and they are strewn throughout the house to remind me to take my temperature throughout the day. The sunny color is to keep me cheerful and hopefully inspire my body temp to warm itself elevating me to the level of the living not the hypothermic. If you hear me shout whoo hoo! It's because I've been briefly very briefly graced with the wonderful energy inspiring 98.0. I've not seen 98.6 for years.

  9. I have a cupboard full of thermometers, and their boxes are marked "oral" or "rectal", but now I don't know whether to trust any of them, or if they are even in their right boxes :/

I had spring fever, but now it is gone. It's a very cold and rainy day here. I'm thinking about putting the kerosene heater on, to burn off our remaining supplies.

I am looking out my classroom window at sunshine, at least I think that is what that bright tuff is, it's been so long since I've seen it! 16. Thank you for the info. I have about 5 different thermometers. None of those old timey ones. We have one for the ear, a temporal, and about 3 of those digital ones. They all give a different reading, which is annoying. At the beginning of the month, my daughter had pnuemonia, it was terrible trying to figure out how high her fever was. Once the temporal said 104.9!!! Yes, I freaked out. Then took it again with a different one. Too bad you were here for all of that.

  17. You are such a hoot!

I have not seen many of those thermometers that you mentioned and the one I have you didn't "showcase"...they ear thermometer! LOL

I am loving the digital ones with child-like animals on them as well as that paci-thermometer! (But, like you said, who knows how accurate that reading is!)

My husband is a fire medic and they now carry the thermometer that you apply to the forehead...believe it or not...they are supposed to be the most accurate. Chris wants to get one for household use, but apparently they are expensive.

    Cute post!

  18. I'm just happy that my days of using the rectal thermometer on the boys is behind me. Ick.

  19. We have the coolest thermometer! It scans the forehead just like the doctors use now. Its fast, easy, and almost idiot-proof. I must say that occasionally I forget to take the cap off, hence the 'almost'. :)

  20. So funny... I was sick yesterday but I was not suffering from spring fever... just some other crazy illness.

  24. Oh yes, I have my share of these and Spring Fever also.

I just read your post from yesterday also and just had to laugh. I'm thinking one-of-a-kind is pretty good ~ even when it comes to people. Diversification makes life interesting. Yea, sorry I don't have a Le Creuset pan to give away.

  25. That was so interesting! Even though I live close to a half-dozen drug stores, I never browse around in them. On my way over to Curves yesterday, I realized I pass 5 drugstores. There are 4 Walgreens in a 3-mile radius!

  26. On both ends huh......hmmm.
    Glad they're outdated (o:
And yes, I have the fever too but need to wait for the snow to all melt, then the mud to dry, then...anyway, it's an unwritten law around here never to plant until after Memorial Day...and for a good reason.. Enjoy your SPRING TANGENT

  27. Kinda funny Jenny as I was sick for a few days. Although I had no fever, thanks for the info anyway! Feeling much better now. It's why I haven't been by! Love Di ♥

  28. What I loved was the wrist action that those old thermometers required to get the mercury level down. Somehow I felt I'd accomplished something when I got that wrist action right. Now, I just have to figure out how the heck I'm going to get a digital to even read. Oh, I know, just don't get sick! There. Got it.

  29. I have a very old one that I don't think works anymore. Those are some cute ones, I think I need to buy a green one. Thanks.

  30. Hi Jenny.....thanks for stopping by to say hi.

Cute post.....since I now have my foot in a boot up to my knees and a cold to boot. I think I could really use one of your thermometers

    Blessings,

  31. you know how in the doctor's office they take your temperature?

always make sure the thing they put in your mouth has the blue lid and not the red lid.

that's all i have to say about that.

  32. Very informative post....I think I want the pacifier one..just saying!

Yes, spring has sprung! And I am so glad.

  34. I do really prefer the old fashioned ones cause I can read them abd I think they are more accurate.
The ones for kids are cute though.

  36. Jenny, I saw your post early this morning and thought, "I DON'T want to hear about medical things...GRRR! Then tonight I thought, well, okay, since I am supposed to be following, I will read it and it was off-kilter as usual and funny! Joni

  37. Those fancy thermometers are very nice looking, but there's nothing like the old ones with mercury inside. I remember my mother shaking the thermometer to bring the mercury back down and accidently breaking it. We'd have so much fun trying to scoop up the little blobs of mercury. Do they still make those thermometers?

  38. Spring fever, and I do have it, is currently just a pipe dream for me....we are in the middle of a snowstorm that is supposed to dump up to a foot of snow on us by this time tomorrow. Argh! I love the thermometer collection, but would probably just break one if I used it now.

  39. Ha ha! So cute! Yea, spring fever is in full effect at our house. Here's to warmer weather, blooming flowers, and keeping allergies at bay...thanks for stopping by today! It was lovely to see you! :-D

  40. Okay but for real if there were a quiz I think I may have enjoyed it a bit. Im weird like that. I love the fun and cute ones!

  41. Jenny, I love reading the comments, you sure got a lot of reaction from something as basic as a thermometer, of course it could have to do with people realizing they are using the wrong ones..... never mind, that's making me sick....yuck.
Thank you for stopping by my blog, I am going to follow along with yours! I appreciate and love it when someone takes the time to leave a comment.

  43. In another life I used to be a nurse. If I ever have to go back to nursing (wow lets hope that never happens) I feel so much more prepared since you have provided this awesome little post on all the different kinds of thermometers available. I am feeling confident I could now ace any test - even if it was about open heart surgery or gallbaldder removal .

Thanks so much for helping out a friend!

  44. I was edified Mrs Matlock, and for that I am grateful. I think I prefer my temperature taken in my ear though.

I've asked many person to no avail in my time; but you being a teacher and all...I thought perhaps you may have THE ANSWER:

Who the heck IS Bob and why are we always yessing and no-ing the guy?

  45. Ah spring. For us here in FL it means the return of stifling heat and humidity and blood sucking creatures that never stop. Yay spring. Not.

Btw... there are two different kind of glass thermometers. The one you pictured, with the elongated end is for the mouth. The other has a stubby end and that's for the hiney! Come on now, you're old enough to know this!

    Justine :o )

I know a lot of other bloggers who respond to comments via e-mail so if you haven't left off your e-mail on purpose, you might want to add it on! If you don't know how you can let me know in your comment and I'll see if I can help you!
