They removed it.
All of it except for a few irritating grains ensconced firmly in my shoe and stuck behind my ears from my head being buried for so long.
Instead of catching up on e-mails and writing a funny post and working in my garden I have been sitting here for several hours writing a scathing letter to the editor.
Scathing.
Me.
To the editor.
Me.
On a political matter.
Me.
At first I thought a spaceship might have stolen me...as in "who are you and what have you done to me?"
And then I realized that...gulp...maybe the only that has happened to me is that I am becoming a grown-up. And fed up. And tired of not being heard.
And I realized that you can't be heard if you don't actually say anything.
So I did.
And I think I feel better.
And maybe I'd rather have my sand back.
Or maybe I'd rather start thinking a little bit more about Abraham Lincoln's great quote, "America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves."
And in other, less radical news, I have a winner for the WW's Celebrations cookbook!

ReplyDeleteJust did some serious venting myself. Mom venting, man that's the worst. You get that Bad Daughter guilty feeling afterwards. Better go to confession soon or I'm going to rot in hell; LOL! You think God takes into consideration "extenuating circumstances"? I sure hope so, LOL!

ReplyDeleteI have never been one to keep my mouth shut. In the horrible fight against the budget cuts to public health, I wrote a poem to the mayor of San Francisco. In the picket lines, I happened to be next to a reporter fromt the Chronicle who published the whole thing in an article entitled, "The Rhyming Nurse at San Francisco General." Amazingly it won a 2008 top ten National Nurses in the Media Award...but, of course, we lost our jobs!!

ReplyDeleteI've written several letters to the editor, but usually on local matters concerning city government, education, etc. The one and only time I wrote a letter touching on anything "political", the firestorm of e-mails and nasty letters I received was unbelievable. But it was something that I felt very strongly about, and I don't regret it for a minute. I am deeply disturbed by the hatefulness that seems to be becoming the norm lately. If we can't work together and attempt to understand another point of view, I fear that Lincoln's warning will come to fruition. I wrote a post on 9-11, and in it I said that I fear if we continue all of this infighting and aren't able to work together, basically we are letting the terrorists win. Good for you for making yourself heard Jenny! Kathy

ReplyDeleteI wrote a letter to your governor about the cuts to the children's health program. But then after recent legislation passed... I just have to say 'wow'. You are living in an exciting political vortex down there.
ReplyDeleteAnd here is a message to everyone- and especially everyone who likes to tout the "can't feed 'em. Don't breed 'em" attitude. Child abuse and incidence of shaken baby syndrome have risen dramatically since the recession. You don't know what you are doing when you constantly peck at and put down people who are already down and hopeless. You cast your stones into the puddle, but close your eyes as the rings of your effects spread wider and wider.

One of the reasons I love my husband is that he writes letters to everyone. He writes letters to Potbelly's about what new sandwiches he'd like them to offer. I'm not there yet...but I'm getting there.
