Olives

On Saturday I went to Trader Joes to get a few groceries.

It is a wonderful store.

They have the best maple leaf cookies in the existence of purchased cookies. I kid you not. They are delicious. Crispy and just maple-y enough with this amazing creamy maple filling. See?

BUT.

I did not buy a box.

I resisted the siren pull of maple cookies even though it is almost October.

Instead I bought a jar of green olives.

What a poor, pathetic substitute for maple cookies.

I know you are dying to know why.

Aren't you?

What? You don't care? How can you say such a thing after all we've been through together.

I bought the olives because I went to the Cherokee Healer lady on Friday late afternoon.

Yea.

I have stories.

Lots of stories. None involving a sweat lodge or olives.

However, after she did the spirit thing and blew pollen on me and waved sweet grass all around me (I'm not making fun of this...it was totally amazing and I can't wait to tell you all about it) we did the 'sit in the chair and I will tell you what I read from your spirit guides' part of the visit.

And she told me this. "You have been eating some wheat flour haven't you?"

I jumped guiltily. How could she have known that I hid a box of maple cookies in my office and have been eating one every single day telling myself that, technically, the pure maple syrup counteracts the whole "never eat sugar and flour thing". Hey, don't judge me here. I've been under a lot of stress. So, yea. Denial. Not just a river in Egypt anymore.

How she knew I wasn't suppose to eat flour totally eludes me. But she knew. It was woo-woo scary.

So I made Mr. Jenny eat the rest of the maple cookies.

And on Saturday, even though I looked at the enticing boxes of maple cookies, I bought a jar of olives instead. Olives are good. Sure, they're not sugary and maple-flavored but they're pretty tasty.

I'm hoping this appeased my spirit guides in some small fashion.

And I'm still figuring out how to condense a 90 minute Cherokee Healing visit into a manageable post. It was pretty jaw dropping and amazing.

But for now...olives is all I've got!

Sigh...

And...

By the way...

Olive you for putting up with me!

Double sigh...

  2. Why would you condense your healer visit to one post????!! Are you nutty? Well, okay, we know you're nutty, BUT....

...it's no less a story than those you tell on Tuesdays. I think you should do it in parts and fill a Mon, Wed and Fri with them.

Yes, that's what I think. Now, what do YOU think?! :)

  3. I'd rather have olives than cookies. Chop em up with some garlic and stir them together with olive oil. Spread on crusty ham and salami sandwiches, with a big slice of mozzarella. Melt it under the broiler. yummy.

  4. Olive tapenade for me! Love the stuff. I think it makes a mighty fine substitute for cookies. Oh, and I'd love to hear more about your visit to the healer!

  5. Olive you too! Bring em' over and we can pig out! I can't wait to hear about your experience, so hurry up and write it.

  6. Mmmm - a sweet and salty post.
Now, if you want really great maple cookies, you'll just have to come up here (and not tell your Cherokee Healer).

  8. I love both! Okay Jenny, do tell! I can't wait!

  9. Why can't you eat wheat flour? Why can't I find those delicious maple cookies? I am from canada and I've only tasted one maple cookie that I liked :( As long as this cherokee healer isn't some kind of psychic or that kind of realm than I'm sure you'll be ok . Divination is forbidden to us catholic folk you know :D I don't even read horoscopes .

  10. We don't have a single, solitary Trader Joe's in the entire state of Texas. Which stinks. Because those cookies look amazing! I love olives, but just not quite as much as cookies :) I can't wait to hear your story about your healing session. Thanks for the day brightener! And yes, olive you too! Kat

  11. Maple Cookies at TJ's ya say?? Oh no...another thing for me to try..that I really don't need.
Can't wait to hear about the healer experience!

  12. I did resist the cookies the other day but didn't make it home without the pumpkin pie from Costco..sigh.

  13. Jenny, dear one, you broke my heart with that picture of maple cookies. I love them too. I was hoping your healer was gonna tell ya that you could eat one a day as long as you followed up with some olives to counterbalance the maple.

    Sigh.

I'm with PJ. I love healers and mystical woo-woo stuff. Would love to read about that on a weekly basis.

  16. I can't get past wanting to know how she knew you had eaten wheat flour.
Kudos to you for resisting the cookies.

  17. Maple Cookies and Olives...two of my husband's favorite things. He hasn't had Trader Joe's version of the cookie though.

  18. It was announced about two weeks ago that my town, Kansas City, would be getting two Trader Joe's...and I was like, "Huh? What's that?"

And I had the nerve to post that on Facebook, and then the Trader Joe Fan Club BLASTED me with 1,000,000 messages on how stupid I was to not know what a TJ was or how awesome it is...and I was like, "I get it! I get it! Enough!"

And I thought I had put the nightmare of TJ's behind me, and now here you go and bring it back to the forefront with your saliva-inducing photo of maple cookies.

Looks like I'll be joining the TJ Fan Club one of these days!

  19. We have been to Trader Joes, I actually like Mustard Seed better. LOL about the olives and the cookies, I would have bought both!

  20. Oh my those cookies look awesome! Now I want some. Of course I am a huge green olive fan and love them. Can't wait for this story of your visit to the healer.

  21. Love Trader Joe's and am going to try those cookies...ha! But love olives too. If I think really healthy though, I drink green tea!!

    ReplyDelete
  22. 1. I wish we had a Trader Joe's near.
    2. I loathe olives. I am rethinking this friendship of ours.
    3. I can't wait to hear how this last visit went.
    4. I will try to forget about the olive issue.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I just ate my breakfast and now I am hungry again. Those cookies sound extremely dangerous. haha.

    ReplyDelete
  24. you traded a for a maple cookie for an olive? no no no no and no! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  25. Okay, my sympathies are totally with you! When I'm a stress case, which is ALWAYS, I need my sweets! I just can't live without them. Can you eat chocolate? There's no wheat in chocolate!

    ReplyDelete
  26. I hate olives. HATE.THEM. But I'm looking forward to hearing all about your hoo-doo-voodo healing stuff!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Perhaps you should do a series on your healer and your olives. Maybe we could all eat olives while reading the series...maybe we should win a box of maple cookies for keeping up, maybe just maybe you should just write it and hope we read it, because some of us don't care how you write it we just want to read it.

  28. You're too funny! You know...olives are great in martinis. You should have a few and then you could really share :D ~Ames

  29. Can't wait to hear about this visit and the spirit guides, etc. My husband would eat that up, as he is really into all things native American lately. (And I'm into them too, if they work!)

Trader Joe's, by the way, is my favorite store....And I approve your eschewal of the maple leaf cookies. The hubster would have to eat those olives, though. I only like black ones.

    =)

  30. I confess, I ate those cookies to save Mrs. Jenny from consuming flour. If any of you would like to be saved, you can send the cookies here -- that's just the kind of guy I am.

    Mr. Jenny

  31. You will have to tell Mr. Jenny that my husband and JDaniel take care of the cookies at my house.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Honestly, I can't wait to hear about it...and I still can't quite wrap my brain around the fact that you went.

I do belive if I had to give up flour and sugar, life might not be worth living. I do love olives...but I love baked sweets even more.

  33. Okay, I am thinking. We could make this work ... we could spend summers and fall in Ohio and winters and early spring in Arizona. Steve and Vandy could do their thing, pampering us and such and we could do our things and play and plant and go to cool healers and cook and learn yoga and play some more!!! Good idea huh?

    ReplyDelete
  34. oh that was so double sigh worthy .... and actually kinda funny ... but i cant wait to hear about your healing experience ... i am a firm believer in non-traditional healing .... i mean it did exist before traditional healing ... at least in some parts of the world ...

    ReplyDelete
  35. Oh Boy those maple cookies look YU U MMY! I like olives too, at least they satisfy the salty cravings.

I can't wait to hear more about your visit with the healer.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I LOVE black olives! At holidays, we would dive into the black olive bowl and stick one on each finger! Yum!

I like those maple leaf cookies, too, but I had rather have olives.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Olives or cookies I would still come back!

    ReplyDelete
  38. I have not had the maple cookies - and I will not - because I have ZERO willpower.

I so want to hear about the healer woman...and then I am coming to AZ to do it...how amazing.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I do hope you post about your visit to the healer, would love to hear about it.

I like green olives on occasion but I prefer the black ones. The cookies I will leave to someone else, I am not much on eating cookies.

    Hugs

  42. I love olives myself and Trader Joe's. How come you can't have wheat - that is huge. sandie

  43. Love green olives, despite the salt, never tried the cookies...thankfully, the only thing I like maple on is french toast and pancakes. I WANT TO HEAR ABOUT THE HEALER!! Very cool!

    ReplyDelete
  44. I love green olives. Super yummy. Perhaps a visit to the Trader is in order. Hmmmmmmmmm

    ReplyDelete
  45. I would have to choose the cookies over the olives. And then I would choose black olives over green olives. But that's just me.

I can't wait to hear about the healer! Sounds really interesting!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Good for you for passing the cookies by! And shame on you for not sending me the leftovers to dispose of properly. I am your go to girl for that type of thing.
Can't wait to hear about your experience with the Cherokee healer. Amazing that she knew you were cheating. I love things like that.

  47. Jenny you are a lot better woman than I am. I could not have passed up the Maple Leaf cookies & passed on the Olives. We get ML cookies at an Amish Bulk Food Store and occasionally at Aldi. I bet Trader Joes are really good. So wish we had a TJ closer. Hopefully I will get to go to the one in StLouis this fall.
I really want to hear about your visit to the Cherokee healer.
Are those cookies seasonal or do they have them all year??

    ReplyDelete
  48. I'll eat those cookies for you!
