There might be hope for the world yet...

Perhaps there are still people teaching their children manners.

Perhaps people still know how to pick up after themselves.

Perhaps the whole world is not embracing 'feed my greed' as a national past-time.

Last night approximately 3,000 trick or treaters visited our little cul de sac. Most of them had parents or other adults with them.

I think it would be a safe estimate to say that the grand total of foot traffic exceeded over 4,000 people in three hours. Not counting dogs. Or the girl riding the pony.

Not one child was rude.

Not one adult was rude.

Not one child refused to say, 'thank you' when their parents reminded them...and most, believe it or not, actually remembered to say it all on their own.

Not one child turned up their nose at the treats we were handing out.

AND...

This morning there was not one piece of trash laying in the street or in the yard.

Crazy, right?

A mininum of 4,000 people in 3 hours cooperated, most of them with a sugar buzz.

I was impressed.

And hopeful.

And there might actually be hope for the world ...

...if we could just get the powers that be to behave as intelligently as a bunch of trick or treaters.

Do you think it would help if we gave the politicians Little Debbie cakes and miniature Snickers bars?

Yeah.

There's a plan.

Power to the Halloween treats.

...

...

Sigh...

  1. What a great night! We're rural so we had only one trick or treater- it was me- I'll admit it, I ate the chocolate bar. I was polite too.

  2. Jenny! 4000!!! That's almost scary! But I'm glad to hear they were so well mannered.
Kathy, we're rural too and didn't have any! My daughter went to her boyfriend's house to help them pass out treats because his siblings were out trick or treating and his sister was having a party.

  3. What a huge number of people you had come! I am so glad they were all on their best behavior.

  4. If ONLY... the politicians would behave as nicely:) I am afraid we will just be having well-mannered children, the politicians are hopeless! Have a blessed day dear Jenny, HUGS!

  5. We didn't have anywhere near as many trick or treaters as you did, but I would agree that most were polite and well mannered.

I don't know if candy would help the politicians behave any better, but I'd be happy to see the behavior of adults, in general, improve. Every day when I take my daughter to school, I'm amazed at how rude some of the other parents are. They park in the "no parking" areas (and sometimes in the handicapped spots), they speed through the school zone, and they block the crosswalk making it dangerous for kids to get across the street. It seems as long as their kids get in the building safely, they don't care about anyone else.

  6. What an idea for the politicians and what a polite crowd you had!

Only the grandchildren make it back to our house!

  8. Good Morning Jenny Sweetie...
What a sweet share. Just look at those little faces. 3-4,000 kids is a lot of trick or treaters. How wonderful there were no signs of destruction following that BIG pass through.

We had about 150+ in our area. That was enough to keep me busy for awhile. We too, saw no signs of vandalism this year. The kids waited patiently in line to get their treats as well. I love that most of all.

Now those politicians. I am right there with you, I would through in a bag of Snickers and Milky Way if it would make them sweeter.

Have a great day sweetie. Country hugs and much love, Sherry

  9. Our trick-or-treaters were all treats too.....except a few of them were awfully old, but mostly polite.
Yes, the politicians could learn something from the little goblins.

  10. Heeehehehe!!! Loved this but I fear it's gonna take more that a Little Debbie Cake to wake up our government!!!

WoW!!! I can't believe your numbers. 'Guess we're gonna have to hire some Trick`or~Treaters here on the Ponderosa!!!

God bless ya and have a most splendid day sweetie!!! :o)

  11. OH.MY.WORD! I would not want to finance the treats for those numbers!

  12. OMG...that many kids??? I wish we had more kids. I always enjoy Halloween and love to hand out the treats. All 20-25 kids were very nice, but I would have loved to have seen more. When I commented on how few kids there were to one mother she told me that most of the porch lights were out in our cul-de-sac. That's sad. I remember as a child loving Halloween, but I've always enjoyed make believe and Halloween was the ultimate make believe time.

I think if we're going to give the politicians candy they need to dress up in costumes and come begging.

  13. Wow! 3,000...I would love that!!! We only got 5 kids total (in 2 groups..my poor daughter was bored out of her mind giving out candy). It's great to hear because I made sure my other daughter was saying her thank you's and trick or treats at every house she went to(I didn't have to tell her but I was listening!)

  14. Wow! You must live in a great place. We actually had nice kids too, but the ones that said Happy Halloween or Thank You, were in the minority. Most just took the candy and left. I'm glad to know there are still places where kids have great manners!

  15. I was just thinking of the difference between trick or tr-eaters and the Occupy Everything protesters, maybe if we gave them candy they would clean up and go home and start a letter and calling campaign? What do you think?

I am glad your neighborhood was so blessed!

Did the pumpkin moving toddler come to your front door? I have to admit, I would be tempted to rearrange things too.

  16. 4,000? I usually have around 50 but this year it was probably half that, all accompanied by parents and most said thank you and parents reminded them, if they didn't. Nice to see this. xo

  17. This is such wonderful news Jenny. There is hope for us yet. Well, not in politics...but elsewhere. :)

  18. Wow! 4000 is a lot of kids! I don't think we ever had that many total in the 31 years I've been on this earth! I'm quite impressed :)

  19. Wow! that is amazing. If I had 3000 kids come to my house....I'd move!

    yeehaw!

  20. Simply cannot believe how many trick or treaters you get! I think we only got about 50.

Having said that, 20 years ago the whole neighborhood was out...and it was bedlam.

    (But such fun bedlam.)

    =)

  21. Geez thats a lot of tricker treaters...we get a few dozen...we didn't have any rude ones either though...that is a good thing!

  22. 3000 polite trick-or-treaters and not ONE politician among them. THAT's why they were all polite. Don't you think it's odd that polite and politician come from the same root?!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Oh My Word! That's a lot of t-o-t traffic! How wonderful that they were all polite. I have to say that some surprised me with their manners. I hope you're right and there is still hope. I'll chip in for the Little Debbies, etc. if you think it will help! laurie

  24. Wow, what an amazing group of great costumes and happy excited faces! Along with your description of how many little trick or treaters and with their parents coming door to door, and when morning rose everything was as it had been...now that's a good old fashion Halloween that I remember! How absolutely lucky you are to be in such a great place!
