OK, I'll admit it...

I iron.

So there.

Mr. Jenny home offices but I always iron his shirts. After I hang them out on the line to dry. I like when he is crisp and neat and smells like sunshine.

Cuz, yea, well he is my sunshine.

AND...

I have now successfully trained him in the art of garage sale spotting.

Saturday morning I was being a lady of indulgence sleeping in until 6:15 when he came in sweetly and said, "The neighbors are having a garage sale!"

I sat up instantly and said "Who?"

"Tom and Judy on the corner," he said and then told me, "Hurry, there's a lot of people there already!"

So I leaped out of bed (OK, it was a pathetic leap but a leap none-the-less!), threw some semi-matching clothes on, tried to comb the snarls out of my hair and then hopped out the front door pulling my shoes on as I went!

It was a huge garage sale and there were tons of people there. All the cool stuff was sitting behind the cashier table already sold.

With a tear in my eye (Hey, I get emotional when I miss out on stuff like this, don't judge me, K?) I turned to go and then I spotted this on a table of plastic containers! I am always a sucker for a metal box. And this one was cool...a little patina, a cute little latch. Geez, Louise!

I opened it up and look what was inside...prepare to say "Awwww..."

...and after I grabbed my treasure Mr. Jenny and I tooled around the neighborhood, drinking a latte from Dutch Brothers coffee and hanging out.

And even though I won't use this to iron Mr. Jenny's shirts I will think of him whenever I see it in my laundry room.

Because this is Father's Day. And he is the best, kindest, most wonderful supportive, loving and supportive guy in the world...to all of our kids and Grands and to me. Oh, and did I mention, he's now a well-trained garage sale spotter!?!

Yea, he definitely deserves those crispy, neat, smelling of sunshine shirts.

  1. Whoa, how cool is that? Awesome find! I like to iron, too. I like the way cotton smells when it's ironed. My Grandma had some irons that had a handle on them and you sat them next to the fire to heat up...hope your honey had a great father's day!

  9. Jenny...great find! I despise ironing!! Thank Goodness my husband doesn't wear dressy clothes too much...I do end up ironing because he would burn a hole in it!! HeHe

  10. A great find, Jenny....both the iron and especially Mr. Jenny. I think he got pretty lucky too. I got paid $1 apiece to iron my dad's heavy white cotton shirts that had been dried in the sunshine when I was a teenager. That is a smell to remember.

  13. Just when I thought you were perfect, I learn you iron.

    Sigh.

JK. Ashley is out of the hospital as of today! She had a BM yesterday and then things started to fly!!!

She's still in St Louis with Bob as the surgeon wanted her close by... just in case. He's even hired a nurse to come by and check on her for a week in Columbia but she is employed by Barnes. Wow.

  15. You and I would get along so well. I love to hang clothes out! They smell better and it's good for them. Except now I live in a !!&^%#$!!! HOA and they are very hard to get along with about that subject. But I do it anyway. I can't justify using a dryer in all of this sunshine. ANDddddd....I like to iron. Although I don't do it much anymore with just my stuff.

    Crazy!

  16. Oh, me too Jenny...the ironing and garage diggin. But alas, not all of us are so blessed with a Mr Jenny...

  17. Awww...what a great find...and what a great tribute to Mr. Jenny, too!

I participated in my daughter's community yard sale this weekend.
I learned a valuable lesson. Do not try to pass off your junk as treasures next to the lady who is selling all her "treasures" for ten cents.

  22. What a little treasure you found - it's an antique though, and really ought not to be used....if you're looking for an excuse to stop ironing!

  26. That is some iron. I had a friend who said that women like boxes and baskets and all those little stow-away places because it is like getting extra wombs. Like men drive big cars or get loud, big machines as an addendum to their sexual organ. I don't know if that's true.

That's why I'm so damn fond of my mom.

  32. Yep, Steve's a keeper ~ and so are you!! Really cool old iron, indeed. So glad he's trained in the garage sale spotting. That is SO important.

I really don't mind ironing. I find it rather soothing...Reminds me of my dear Grandmother (& my own mother.)

  33. That is a cool little find. I am a sucker for boxes too - wood, metal - anything. Mr. Jenny is awesome for being a garage sale spotter...can he write a post on how to aid your wife's garage salen/thrifting fun so my hubby can read it!

  34. I love me a good garage sale.....

  35. Mr. Jenny deserves to feel crisp and smell like sunshine. I adore vintage Universal items. I no longer collect them because I'm lightening my load. I do still have a vintage toaster.
It won't make crispy shirts, but it will make crispy bread.
