NOT the next Food Network Star!

For the love of all things buttery and corn-flaked topped...

...I need to find a way to calm Mr. Jenny down.

Yesterday the man assembled two cheesy potato casseroles and baked them. He wrapped them carefully in foil, and placed them lovingly in the trunk to keep warm on the way to my parent's house.

The men sat outside and ate. And admired his casseroles. "Wow, these are the best ever," they cried in astonishment. Mr. Jenny told them about 43 times, "Yeah, I made these...Jenny just picked up the stuff from the store."



For the love of Cream of Chicken soup, calm down everyone.

It was just cheesy potato casseroles...

And frozen hash browns, sour cream, shredded cheddar cheese and melted butter does NOT mean you are a chef.


No.

I'm not bitter.

Why do you ask?

I'm not offended at all that no-one got nearly as excited over the devilled eggs and homemade sugar cookies with scratch butter cream icing.

Heavens.

Those are just minute offerings to the great gustatory God's of Easter celebration food.


Seriously.


It's all about the crunched up cornflake topping, I guess.

    If my husband ever made a cheese anything...or ever made anything more than toast...well I'd let him brag till the cows came home!! lol:) Hope you had a happy Easter Jenny!

    Don't discourage him!

    Tell him how EVERY SINGLE THING he makes is better than yours...soon, on holidays, you'll be able to sleep in late, or recline in comfort in your favorite chair, while he does all the work.

    Using this technique, I've been able to remove cooking anything greasy from my to-do list!

    We had a delicious hash-brown casserole and it WAS my favorite:) BUT... I also enjoyed the deviled eggs! I am sure that your cookies were wonderful and they just didn't want Steve to CRY, so they bragged on his casserole:)

    Jenny ~ take it from someone who no longer cooks ~ not by my choosing ~ if your hubby wants to take charge of the oven...let him!
    over the course of 20+ years my family has come to know that HE makes the best food EVVAAHHH :D
    i'd be skinny if it weren't for my personal CHEF :D

    I would totally have taste tested the homemade sugar cookies with the homemade frosting. That over potato casserole any day of the week.

    I should have joined you guys for Easter dinner! I make those SAME potatoes every year and yesterday, I could've cooked mine longer. Mike calls them "Angioplasty potatoes" - cuz you're gonna need it after you eat those! Tell me about the Corn Flake topping - We don't do that.

    I SO wanted to have sugar cookies, but just didn't feel like making them. I'll bet yours were DELICIOUS!

    Dang! If that's a pic of what he actually cooked, it lookes mighty tasty for a potato casserole!

    If he's not so bad at cooking, feign an injury or an illness. That way he can contribute to the 'daily chores'. Just keep him away from the laundry.

    You should relish in the fact that other women reading this post are probably jealous that you have a husband that helps with the "feeding of the masses".

    Not to worry, the men who admired Mr. Jenny's cheesy potato casserole will probably forget about the dish he made as soon as they flop on the couch and do the Al Bundy post meal ritual.

    The women reading your post however will nag their husbands for days to come..."Why can't you help in the kitchen like Jenny's husband??"

    I think that sometimes we do so much that it is not noticed as much as when someone who hardly ever does anything....does something, like make a cheesy potato casserole. Oh well, I am sure that the feast was amazing! Happy belated Easter.

    With any luck you should be able to pass off all this sort of cooking to him - he's shown his cooking prowess and there's no going back. You can focus on the things you want to make - like cookies!

    giggling ... it must have been the day to also celebrate cheese ... vandy did steaks, mushrooms and asparagus on the grill AND cheesy twice baked potatoes .....so much for the ham tradition ... this self proclaimed chef is not complaining!!!!
    p.s. did you know i am a bag hoarder ... merci beaucoup for the addiction!

    Oh...Jenny, my sides are hurting from laughing. It's all too true...happens all the time!
    Just let your husband do all the cooking like I do...no problem if people want to spout about how awesome his recipes are. I just sit and listen and laugh (very quietly) while stuffing my face with whatever I didn't have to cook!

    That potato dish does that to people. That's why I always make it myself, so I can get the credit and applause!!!! My daughter calls them "Dutch"potatoes, because in our little Dutch community they are in every local cookbook at least 5 times!! And served at every holiday, potluck and get together!!!
    I'm all about the sugar cookies and buttercream frosting!!! I make those too! Pass on the deviled eggs...sorry!
