Hope you had a berry happy weekend...(Tattoo dresser update, too!)

We did!

My blackberries are producing like crazy.

The two oldest Grands took them door to door in our cul-de-sac to raise money for camp!

Today, I picked a whole bowl full and then made the best blackberry/raspberry cobbler with them! It was a really unusual recipe and I was unsure if it was going to turn out...but...WOW! I'll post the recipe at the very, very end of my picture laden block post today for you to try!

AND...although, I didn't finish the dresser, I'm moving right along. I have one side to finish painting and then I am going to glaze over the painting areas and antique them a bit to knock the color down a little bit and give it dimension. But here's where I'm at now!

...and that's my Monday update! I have some funny little kid stories but this post is too long as it is, sooooo...

If you want to have a berry happy week, make this cobbler. For serious.

BLACKBERRY COBBLER

3 cups fresh blackberries
1 cup sugar
1 cup all purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup milk
1/2 cup butter, melted (one stick)
Ice cream

Stir together blackberries and sugar. Let stand for 20 minutes.

Heat oven to 375.

In a large bowl stir together flour, baking powder, salt and milk. Stir in melted butter JUST until blended. Do NOT overmix the batter. Just handle it gently and as little as possible.

Spread batter into an UNGREASED square 8 inch pan.

Spoon fruit mixture over top.

Make 45 - 55 minutes at 375 until dough rises and is golden brown. Serve warm.

WHAT I DID: I doubled everything and made a 13 x 9 pan but it was over-full and dripped all over my oven. I didn't have quite enough blackberries to double the recipe, so I used 4 cups of fresh blackberries and 2 small containers of red raspberries. I'm tellin' ya. This is the best berry cobbler I have ever made.

  24. Your dresser is looking so cute! I may have to find something around my house that needs sprucing up... I'm a bit jealous of your blackberries too. I planted some raspberries and the bushes are almost 6 inches tall. I am not a patient gardener.

  25. Wow! If I still lived in Arizona, I'd drive up and buy some berries from the girls so I could make that cobbler! YUM!!!
The dresser is looking AWESOME! Where are you going to put it when it's done? (Can't remember if you already said.)

  26. Miss Jenny - This is the Southern way to make cobbler! That's how I do it. It's more of a bread than a crust. I actually do it both ways because my hubs loves the crusty kind, but I grew up on the bready kind. And though your cobbler looks devine I could never eat it because I have Sauce Bernaise (sp?) syndrome when it comes to black berry cobbler because I puked it up when I was a little kid! LOL
Too much info? Thought so! I've had lots of coffee this morning.

Julia and Riley are dolls. Hope they raise money for their camp!

  28. Jenny, your post brought back fond memories!
My son is now 25 but when he was much smaller he and his cousins picked wild berries at our home and I made it into a cobbler similar to yours.
I didn't really think much of it at the time but several years later we had moved to a new home and my son took his friend for a walk in the back acreage. They came back with tons of wild berries and My son asked if I'd make a cobbler like I had done years before.

Okay so it was a moment of pride but anyhow , Lots of warm memories too.

    Have a grand week,
    Blessings, Trudy
P.S. I'll be opening an Etsy soon! Sooo Stay in touch!!!

  39. Firstly, your Grands are adorable :) Secondly, the dresser is awesome! Thirdly, that cobbler sounds and looks to-die-for good. My dear late MIL made what she called "kuchen" out of apples or berries or peaches or whatever fruit she could get hold of. It was very similar to this recipe. Love it!! Have a great week, Dear Jenny!!

  52. Jenny that dresser is absolutely amazing! You could make a fortune doing this as a lioving as I think customer would line up to buy such a beautiful hnad painted piece such as this --I know I would!

Getting three cups full would be hard to find but if I ever do I'll e-mail your for this recipe --it looks amazing!
