Sometimes the kitchen help...

...doesn't.

Help, that is.

Mr. Jenny and I had the grandlittles for an overnight on Friday night. We took them to see the Christmas lights at the Mormon temple here...

I wish I had some of the pictures of the reflecting pool to share with you. It is one of the most glorious sights imaginable...millions of twinkling lights reflected in the blackened, rippling pool of mirrored water and...

Oh...

Hmmm...

Yeah, that doesn't feel like much of a natural segue from kitchen help that isn't, does it?

Focus, Jenny.

Focus.

So...overnight, Christmas lights...blah, blah, blah...

And in the morning, little Mo told me she wanted to help me make scrambled eggs for breakfast.

I picked her up on the counter and gave her a bowl and two eggs.

She picked up one of the eggs and crushed it in her hand. Egg when flying everywhere!

"Mo! What are you doing?" I said. I was really surprised because I taught her how to crack an egg on the counter and she's been doing it that way for at least a year.

"Grandma! Watch this!" she replied excitedly. She then proceeded to crush the second egg in her hand.

"Mo! Stop that! What are you doing!?!" There was egg everywhere, dripping off the counter onto the floor to the great delight of Oskar the weiner dog.

"Grandma! Don't get mad. This is how PROFESSIONALS crack an egg! I saw it on TV. They do it exactly like this!"

"Mo! I don't think PROFESSIONALS crack an egg by squashing it in their hand. Do PROFESSIONALS make a big mess like that every time they crack an egg?"

She tipped her head to the right. She looked at the mess surrounding her. She tipped her head to the left and peered over the edge of the counter where Oskar waited in quivery anticipation.

"Wellll..." she finally conceded, "Maybe a five year old KID can't crack an egg like a PROFESSIONAL..."

She gave a big sigh.

"Grandma? I'm going to need two more eggs!"

  3. haha...I remember learning to crack an egg one-handed ...my mom taught me... I think we probably went thru a half dozen eggs or so before I got it down... I seem to recall that our German Shepherds liked that lesson too. ;)

  5. She's such a cutie!!

I'm a two handed egg cracker, myself, but my husband can do it with one hand (he went to culinary school for a while when he was younger). If I tried the one hand crack method, I'd have the same result Mo did!

  6. Guess she couldn't know until she tried it! At 3, our grandson dropped a couple of eggs on the floor just because it was fun. At 4, he's a two-handed egg cracker, and pretty good at it.

  8. Mo has me beat... at least she's trying! I don't know if the egg shells are getting harder, or I'm getting weaker, but I have a heck of a time with them lately.

  10. That was totally cool. I know I would have been a child who would have done that too, if I had watched a lot of cooking shows like I do now.

  13. Hello.
This is too cute. You are making such wonderful memories Jenny. Good thing you don'y have a short fuse like Gordon Ramsey...he would have had a big time hissy fit! (lol)

    The lights are beautiful.

  14. HAha. That is awesome. That reminds me of the time I was making banana bread and left my 2 year old and a dozen eggs on the counter (not smart). Needless to say the bread had many a shell and quite a bit of extra yolk.
(BTW we used to go to the Mesa Temple every year so to see it bring warm fuzzies to my heart!)

  16. Well, I"ve got her beat. I can open two pecans at a time with only one hand--only my hand--not a nut cracker. I'll bet I can crack two eggs with one hand as well, but I can't promise they'll be useable when I'm through!!

  17. That is so cute! I think I did the same thing!
