Has it really been a decade?

One.  You wore a hula skirt.

Two. You smiled and tried to flirt.

 Three. A princess.

Four. So glam.

Five, six, seven, eight, nine

…and then.

…the years kept going…

…you were ten.

How can these years be gone so fast?

How can I make your childhood last?

I thought my kids grew up too fast!

I blink…

I imagine you graduating…

Trying not to blink…

…is so frustrating.

Acceptance is supposed to come with age.

Has it really been a decade?

I close my eyes.

I remember it all.

One. You wore a hula skirt.

Two. You smiled and tried to flirt.

This little rhyme is linked with Saturday Centus number 111.   The prompt is in bold.   To read other uses of this prompt, just click here.

And, yes.   Our oldest Grandlittle.

Just.

Turned.

Ten.

Still in shock here.

  4. Aww...I know how you are feeling. My oldest granddaughter turned 10 in May. It is so fun to watch them grow up, but I wish they didn't have to do it so fast.

  5. I can certainly relate to this after vacationing with two of my sons and their children. We have seen so little of Jeff's daughter, Laurel Ann, and now she is turning 13. The twins remembered us from Christmas and both were thrilled to see "Granddaddy" because they thought he brought the golf cart with him! Hahahaha!!

  6. Happy birthday! A decade and it went that fast! I can relate to that. You can hug them now and appreciate their companionship. Once they go to boarding school at whatever age you would have lost them. They then leave the nest, get married and gone! Nice take Jenny!

I love you, and miss you.

  15. Happy Birthday to her! You can add this blog post to the list of great memories of your lives.

Kids growing up is such a bittersweet thing. The older they get, the more we realize that they really do belong to the world and not to us...
    Great post Jenny!

  19. Jenny, what a cute poem for a cute little girl. I know she will treasure this poem you dedicated to her 10th b'day. They DO grow up so fast! Thanks for hosting Sat. Centus (except maybe not this week's, since I found your prompt SO difficult)! Have a great weekend. laurie
