Gosh, I remember the first day of school...

A little nip in the air.

A cozy sweater tucked around my shoulder.

Waiting outside and feeling a cold breeze on my face.

Yeah.

Ummm...

This is what we got this morning instead...

Hottest day of the year predicted...116.

Heat advisories.

Little kids covered in sweat (along with parents and grandparents) at 8:30 am.

It just didn't feel as fun.

And every single year I wonder why they make these little kids go back to school when it is still in the 110's.

But our Grandlittles are darned cute anyway.

Even if they are quite sweaty.

PS.  If anybody knows how I can turn these pictures correctly, I'd sure appreciate a tip.   They are ride side up when I move them into blogger.

  1. Dang, they start early!! Ste doesn't start until Aug. 27. Of course, it will still be hot as hell. Meh

I have no idea about the pics!

  2. Hmmm...strange that they are posting the wrong way when they look right! I use a free program called Windows Live Writer to blog, especially when there are pictures because it's so much easier, and it will auto post to your blog/FB/whatever for you.

I agree - waaaaay too hot for the first day. I hope the school has AC. Our ES does not, and it was not nearly as warm last year (we start after labor day) BUT warm enough that the classroom was quite uncomfortable!

  3. I use picmonkey.com when I can't get them to flip;). Grandlittles are precious. I believe we should go back to the old days of starting in September. Hugs

  4. I think it's strange how they start school earlier and earlier each year. My grandkids start on Monday, and it's pretty hot down there, too.

    =)

  5. Our kids don't start until the day after Labour Day.....although there are some Killjoys who would like to see year-round schooling. I think it's a terrible idea.

  7. I was just thinking, yesterday, that it's a shame some kids don't get the whole, seemingly endless summer off. Those temps are ridiculous to have kids study in! I'd send the pics to Picmonkey, rotate them there and reinstall on your post. ~ Maureen

  9. Hi Jenny, What ever your program is that you upload them to you computer should let you rotate them left or right. I use either Microsoft Office or Paint to upload my pics. Even when you save them to a folder the program you use to view them should allow you to rotate them left or right. Let me know if it works for you.

Love those fans attached to spray water bottles. Where did you get those??

  10. So, so cute! We start a week from today. Just about all of our elementary schools in the Kansas City area have AC. It's a must out here on the prairie! :)

  12. Too early and too hot! Back to school shopping should be for jeans and jackets, not shorts and sandals.

  13. You can Google your photo flipping. There's a reason it does that, but danged if I can recall what it was. The answer IS out there.

  14. What state are YOU in? lol We don't go back until the day after Labor Day. Virginia doesn't want to give up that last bit of Labor Day income from summer vacations.

Turning my head to the side, I can still see how cute the grandlittles are and how proud you are of them.

  17. Back to school so soon? Where did summer go?

  18. Wow, it is hot there. I need to send you some ice! But then it might melt before it gets there. Sigh. I was wondering what happened to the cool weather of fall and school. Cool breezes, jackets, apples and gorgeous changing leaves. I think it only exists in my mind.

  19. Aw! Happy Back to School Day! I think of how yucky hot it is for the kids, especially the marching band kids and the football kids!

    Stay cool!
They all look wonderful in the first day of school pics!

    Blessings & Aloha!

  20. I think the heat perhaps forbade you from flipping the photos over??? They are darn cute....even in that heat! I hope they have a wonderful year full of wonderful stories for us all. XOXO

  21. I think the law should state that kids don't return to school until after Labor Day! And all schools have to have central air! God bless those little ones. They are sure sweet! Hugs Anne
