I no longer hate my weiner dog...

Yes, I know I've written scathing posts about him and his propensity to tinkle on the floor.

And I've written other posts about how strange he is in general.

But today last night I feel in love with my weiner dog, Oskar, all over again.

And it is because of this!
I saw this really cool wreath recently here and I became enamored of making one.

I showed my husband.

He did not share my enthusiasm.

"What books are you going to cut up to make this?" he said.

"Don't worry, it won't be any of yours," I replied.

So I dug through some paperbacks languishing in the back of the bookshelves and I put two on the table along with my wreath form and hot glue gun. Oddly, the books disappeared.

"Where are my paperbacks?" I asked him.

"Oh, I might want to read those someday!" he replied.

"You want to read some books about lustful maidens falling in love with their gardeners/and or stablemen?" I asked sarcastically.

"Well, you never know...I just might," he said, and then he added, "that wreath looks dumb anyway!"

Hmmm...

So I dug further and found another book and put it on the table. Apparently he might want to read a book someday about exercising your face followed by a book about eliminating boll weavils in the cotton fields.

He is dumb like that.

But last night my weiner dog, Oskar, made me love him.

We had taken our granddaughters out to a little picnic at the playground and got home quite a bit later then usual.

Poor Oskar must have been famished because on the living room floor was a ripped up book. Pages, strewn everywhere! (I took this picture today so you can see how absolutely darling this sweet, little angel is!)

And now, my friends, I can make my wreath!

I just love that dog!

And if you want to make this wreath and run into the same problem...you may or may not want to try rubbing some meat juice (ewwww) on a book you don't want.

Not that I did.

Or would.

Ever.

Sigh.

  2. hahahaha, nice.

we once left a huge pack of reese's cups on the kitchen table, and our beagle, the one considerably mentally retarded actually found a way to push a chair up to the table so he could climb up there and eat the entire pack.

didn't throw up or anything once.
just went about his day as usual...

    dogs are funny like that.
your wiener dog is precious. :)

  6. THANK YOU for the great idea for the wreath made from pages out of books. My library volunteers can do that for us for decorations for our open house in a couple of months.

  8. hey..i might have to make that wreath..we have so many books lying around. yesterday i caught our wiener dog trying to open a box of chocolates that she has purloined from our credenza...which meant she had to climb onto my hubs guitar, speakers and then the credenza...
how she even knew the chocolates were there was beyond me!
    your oskar is adorable!

  9. Just another reason I say Dachshunds are the smartest, most loyal dogs of all. Mommie wants a wreath, weiner dog takes care of the book part.

  18. hahahahaha! That is absolutely inspired! Of course, the slightly stained pages (from the meat juice) will just add to the aged appearance of the wreath, right? And Jana's comment TOTALLY cracked me up... "G" rated wreaths only, OK?

  20. Oh gosh I am just coming up for air now! Laughing, laughing and more laughing. Our Scottie loves to eat paper. She only gets into the trash to grab paper. Reminder always close the bathroom door. If I leave paper of any kind on my side table where I set to crochet and watch TV and walk away it will be snatched up in a seconds time and hidden under the couch with her. Great idea though because my hubs would probably say the same thing. But I really like it a lot....Getting ideas here.

  31. Jenny,
I wish I could see that book or the wreath but for some reason my computer doesn't show any of the pictures on your post today. I 'll go on hubby's later. Your husband sounds like a hoot, or maybe one of us folks that never know when we might want to do something so we save forever!!
What a coincidence, my son called an hour ago and said his wife of 1 year hates his dog and would I take him? I actually had the dog when he was in Iraq for a year and as much as the dog {a two year old male boxer} really is a pain in the neck I sure don't want him to not get what ever dog needs. Purina Dog Chow and Love!!! Should I take him back??? Blessings, Meg

  33. Jenny you are funny & your little dog helped you rip up those pages! I have an old torn copy of Peter Rabbit and other fairy tales I thought of doing the HGTV ornaments which are covered with strips of paper like that! Where did you get the wreath instructions?

  39. hahaha!!! I was wondering how or when Oskar would fit into your wreath-making and how he would possibly draw that love out of you? Seriously...I was thinking, hm, just what could Oskar possibly be able to do to aid in wreath-making? And then the photo spoke volumes! A definite "ah-ha" moment!

Now as for your hubby... I must say he did slow down the wreath-making venture haha!

Love, love, love your humour! (Honestly! when I finally get a real vacation...I want to go through all your past posts!)

    Blessings & Aloha!

It's funny, but we have the same initials - JM - although, your last name is much cooler! I wonder, does your middle name start with an L?
And believe it or not - I too have a wienie dog - and his name is Oscar!!! He has yet to show a taste for paperbacks though!

  53. Hi Jenny!
I am new to your blog and found you via Cathy at TolenTreasures.
You made me laugh and in my book that is a good thing. Your dog Oskar is obviously a very talented, dedicated, psychic dog who picked up the vibes of your needing a good book for the project. He definately deserves a doggie bone for being such a good puppy....hee...hee...
If you don't mind, I will be back.
Right now I am off to read more of your posts.
    Thank you for sharing.

  55. Jenny,
Your silliness always makes me smile...I tried to leave a comment earlier so you might get two. Anyway, love your lemonade from lemons wreath....and I don't think the flowers are childish, they are sweet. I know a great place for you to find that farm...hint, hint. I even know a reliable off season care taker!
