Farmstead Memories - Letter V

The years at the old farmstead were confusing. I was living in the house of my dreams, but my personal life was a nightmare. I have such mixed feelings when I look back at that time.

I started to write about the views from the old windows, but my heart insisted it wanted to say something else.

This does fit into my little farmstead series, but leans toward the dark side of those years.

Outside the window
every hue
of blue and green and brown,
the view!

Reflections of the time of year,
the time of day, my state of mind.
The view is poignant, bittersweet
comprised of colored mosaics sublime.

I watched the years rush by the panes.
Beyond my cold imprint on glass
I watched the view in sun and rain,
praying that the pain would pass.

Outside the windows
I once knew,
the years spun past so fast.
The view!

This little memory is written for Alphabe-Thursday's letter "V".

  1. Such a sad view - we don't get those years back. Thank heavens for the good times that punctuate the pain, or it would be unbearable.

  2. Hi Jenny, the picture is breathtaking...Hmmm- so you are writing about a memory that starts with the letter V? Which is for the view? Sorry for ignorance. I always enjoy reading you, but have not read the letter thingies.

  6. I don't think I'm the only one who would love to hear this whole story. Wish you could write it all... It would be amazing.

  7. Sometimes it's tough to let go of the unpleasant times. We just always manage to keep them in the back of our mind. Maybe to remember a lesson learned? ~Ams

  8. Thank you for sharing Jenny; something that is not the easiest to think about.

We have been in our home for more than 10 years now and our kids have grown quickly. I can envision how the views have changed from out upstairs windows. As I have changed while looking at the outside world.

  9. I imagine how often my views have changed as well without realizing how quickly or how much. Without some of those views from the old window, I doubt I'd be where I am right. You write in such a real compelling style.

  14. I LOVE reading your poetry, Jenny. Not only do you write beautifully, but you 'stack' the words in such a lovely way that we're treated to a pictorial also. I don't know how you do it but do NOT stop.

    Thank you.

  16. Although I know this was difficult it was most beautifully written sweetie.

Funny how those 'voices' and 'feelins' can still creep up on us still today.

    God bless ya darlin'!!! :o)

  18. So often, pain and happiness go hand in hand. Thankfully, the bad times don't last for ever.

  21. Glad those days are behind you, Jenny. Really glad.

And so impressed (but not at all surprised) that you were able to nurture and keep some happy memories, despite the painful ones.

  23. Life is a rollercoaster. The passage of time is so fleeting, our life rushes past us. We are left with memories, feelings and photos. Hopefully the good times outweigh the bad.

  24. My dear Jenny.
I'm playing catch-up from last week.

I love the image, but this left me feeling kind of sad. I would love to read this series of yours in its entirety. Another lovely post. Thanks for sharing.
