Run, run...as fast as you can!

Was I leaving a trail?

Would the scarlet spatters show against the confetti of colors on the ground?

When I stopped, just for a second, the rough brown texture of tree bark felt like a scream against my cheek.

I leaned and exhaled.

And tried to inhale.

A whimper escaped my lips.

Just a tiny sound.

“Careful. Careful!” I warned myself softly.

He was closer now. Too close.

I could hear his sing-song voice surround me like a taunt filled fog.

“Ollie-Ollie-oxen-free! Try to get home…just try,” he chanted.

I sobbed in terror against my blood-crusted fist.

Then I ran.

The leaves crunched under my boots…

…until they didn’t.

  1. Not your average game of hide and seek. Perfect for the month of Halloween.

  2. Goof night, Jenny Marie. I don't want to play Hide and Seek with you!!! Or with "him" either, whoever "he" is.

  3. Macabre indeed! The stuff nightmares are made of. I suggest that your potential victim learns karate!

  6. Talk about spooky--made my blood freeze--yes, freeze.

Yet, I also experienced a thrill of the unexpected. Love it.

Hi! Thanks for leaving a comment! My handy dandy e-mail assistant always notifies me when you do and I read every single one.

I try to respond to comments with a return e-mail BUT I just noticed that I've been answering a lot of them to blogs that haven't linked their e-mail address to their Google account! I haven't been ignoring your comments, but now I know you aren't getting my reply e-mails! I'm sorry!

I know a lot of other bloggers who respond to comments via e-mail so if you haven't left off your e-mail on purpose, you might want to add it on! If you don't know how you can let me know in your comment and I'll see if I can help you!

Thanks so much for reading my 'Tangents'! Your comments always feel like a hug!
