The following takes place...

Between 1:18 pm and 11:53 pm

Insanity.

Addiction.

Arrrgggghhh.

One of our lovely daughters gave Mr. Jenny several boxed season sets of 24 for his Birthday several weeks ago.

And...

Ummm...

Seriously, my butt hurts.

We started watching Season 4 and watched continuous episodes for over 10 hours. I only let Mr. Jenny hit the pause button when I had to tinkle or grab something to eat. When he wanted to tinkle or get something to eat I told him, "ARE YOU INSANE! WE'RE NOT PAUSING IT NOW! SUCK IT UP, MAN!" because it was always, always at some suspenseful part of the episode. The phone rang. We didn't care. That's why they invented voice mail.

The doorbell rang. We didn't care. That's why they made locks for front doors.

Our to-do lists languished on the counter. We didn't care. That's why they made tomorrows.

And all I can say is this...we still have around six hours of viewing time to go. Just to finish this season.

But I'm pretty sure it's gonna slow down. Soon. Very soon.

And then we can turn off the DVD and step away from the TV set.

And maybe, finally, take a shower.

And when I won a blog giveaway last week for Season 1 of 24 I almost passed on the prize. But, really, that would be silly because I'm going to get control of this addiction soon. And besides. I can turn off the DVD player whenever I want to. It's just that Mr. Jenny won't let me.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Sigh...

I have SO been there! I got addicted to 24 during Season 5. I went back and watched Season 4 on DVD. I don't think I left the house or just dressed once that entire weekend, haha!

I keep hearing this from people. I was a fool and never watched the series. Soooo....I may have to borrow that set of yours. Someday.

LOL at Julie! Twin Peaks! Loved it as well. Never got the appeal of 24 but then again I never took the time to watch a full episode. Hope your butt feels better soon! :o)

Ha! We've been like that before when we've rented the Weeds series. The cliffhangers!! You just have to break into that next DVD...

Terra said...

I did that with CSI a few years back, then I had withdrawals when I ran out of DVDs...good luck with that!

Mid-Atlantic Martha said...

I've never watched it -- so perphaps this is one addiction I can avoid! LOL.

jules said...

Oh my goodness! That's a lot of 24. We used to watch it when it first started but never kept up with it. Now I am scared to get the sets, I would be addicted too....I'm sure of it.

Sorry suspense just doesn't cut it for me....when the tension starts I leave so 24 is not me, but, if anyone happens to know where I can get season 3-4 of West Wing...well that is altogether different! Enjoy the next 6 hours!

Bits-n-Pieces said...

We get like that with Boston Legal. Have to monitor our intake or we totally get out of control!!!

Shay said...

Yep ...did this with Seasons 1-6 of The Sopranos, endless seasons of Lost , I watched 6 Feet Under constantly for weeks, and (I'm ashamed to admit this ) I watch 30 hour blocks of Melrose Place every time they bring out a new season.

By the way you can get Depends you know. And dial for pizza from the comfort of your lounge chair. You may never need to move again.

Oh 24 is an addiction for me, but I haven't been able to watch much of it..I'm on the very first season when I have to stop cold turkey!

LOL, the Commander loves that series. I am that way with reality TV...I love Big Brother, The Batchelor, Survivor, The Batchelorette, Dancing with The Stars, etc....*hiding my eyes*

I've never seen it and now I'm afraid to even peek!!!

That's funny. We use to watch 24, but over the past 2 years I would say it was the same old same old. Now it if was Army Wives that would be a different story...

Mr. Jenny is SUCH an enabler! HA.

Ah yes, I recognize this phenomenon. For us it was Lost. We never bothered, until a friend described it with some more detail, and we were immediately hooked. We watched season 1 in like three evenings. "Ok, just one more episode!!" We were up until 3 and 4 in the morning, it was ridiculous. But such fun.

i watched the 1st season in 2 sittings. and i just couldn't bring myself to watch any other seasons.

girl gets kidnapped. girl escapes. gets kidnapped again. escapes again. repeat 13 times.

i just wanna slap the girl.

We love 24!!! Watched every season and almost cried when the final episode aired!!! We got hooked on Battlestar Galatica, Hubby got it in a fancy box and I swear I would come in from school and say...Can we please watch Battlestar!!" It is so easy to get hooked, and with DVR and on demand and netflix, oh my stars!!! Do you know that you can watch past seasons of lots of shows on your computer for free....my son is wanting me to start watching Lost, we watched for a couple of years and I stopped. He ways it is GREAT. Oh, well, I have to wait till I get some work done or I will be like you and Mr.Jenny!

i'm not sure if you will get control of that addiction until all episodes of all seasons are watched! enjoy!

I am glad I did not get sucked into that show...cause I have enough shows on my plate.
Looks like we need a 12 step program for mr and mrs Jenny. :)

Jenny I love 24 and when I start a season I know I'm a goner for hours until its done. So I have one calling to me but I've put it off for now. But well it's been really hot, too hot to do much so I could just maybe start it and see .... hmmmm.....step away from the TV Linda!!

I have never actually watched a single episode of 24 but have heard it is really good. Having read this post however I think it might be best NOT to try and watch all seasons to date and catch up quite so quickly :-)

The Quintessential Magpie said...

You are too funny! LOL!

I know about addictions. Blogging anyone??? ;-)

Just wish what you could see that I've been wearing because I haven't had time to do my laundry. "What Not To Wear" would have a field day!

XO,

Sheila :-)

My kids do this. They will rent an entire series and watch it in one sitting!

I guess this proves that you are young at heart...

I'm not the only one....can I just say how excited I am?! hahaha. I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE 24!!! We started watching it last July and just finished the last season watching on TV. SUCH an amazing series...did you know Jackie B. has a huge ranch about 6 miles from where I live?! I've never been much for stalking until now...

Janet Johnson said...

How did you get away from that tv to write this?! You are definitely NOT addicted if you could do that.

I haven't ever watched an episode. Maybe I won't start . . .

Theresa said...

I have never seen even a minute of that show... perhaps I should start:)

Enjoy your day my friend! HUGS!

Cheryl Kohan said...

I have never watched that show, either. Somehow I got the notion that there's a lot of pain on "24". I am a big old scardy cat and the mere thought of pain gives me pain. You are a good wife.

aimee said...

weve done that before. it was a great day! we watched psych :)
blessings,

Thank goodness that one conflicted with something I was already addicted to. Since my DVR can only do one, without having to watch whatever second one you want to tape, I made the sacrifice and escaped that addiction. Good luck with the withdrawal pain!

Cheryl D. said...

I've never seen 24. I might now get started on this addiction. I'm already addicted to too many other TV shows (Breaking Bad, Desperate Housewives, True Blood)!

Unknown said...

I feel so out of the loop, I have never rented or bought 1 season or 2nd season or any season of any box set... My daughter rented Weeds and said I had to watch it, but after your story I'm afraid.

Hugs, Linda

Hahahahaha!!!! That's funny! Watch out, though...you may get so engrossed that squatters could take up residence all around you...and you'd never notice!

Jenny, My personal addiction is to NCIS marathons, so I know how you feel. I have to take my breaks during commercial breaks, even though I have seen every episode it seems like dozens of times! Do we need a 12 step program?

Lourie said...

Oh dear, I hope Jack didn't Cheryl's remark about him not being real!

I love that show! And I hate it. It's better when you can just watch it from start to finish! haha.

Melinda said...

You are lucky that Mr. Ken and I live in Kansas and not next door to you because you would have had Mr. Ken for a visitor!
He enjoyed 24.

Happy Tuesday.

I am so lame. I have never seen one episode of 24. It doesn't get much lamer than that! I'm hosting a giveaway on my blog, if you're interested. :)

J said...

While I have never seen that, you sound like our family when we got our box sets of NCIS...

And when I got my seasons of Gilmore Girls, for that matter...

Ah, television.
It kills.

haha this happened to me 2 summers ago when my BFF let me borrow seasons 1-3. I literally didn't move for like a month straight. I was OBSESSED!!! Enjoy!

When my girlfriends and I discovered 24 & LOST - back in our singledom days - we would have all night parties watching continous episodes on DVD! Wonderful memories! Season 2 of 24 is still my favorite! Although Season 4 - when Palmer bit the dust in the first episode was gripping!!
