Cosmic message?

You be the judge.

So...

I am sans grandlittles for a few days. They've gone off on vacation.

And since they have, I decided to make a GIGANTIC to do list...

You know?

Scrapbook 412 pages...

Catch up on blogs...

Write the great American novel...

...and spring clean...

just a few months late.

My first day "off", I decided to tackle the spring cleaning stuff...I washed windows...I washed floorboards...I dusted wooden blinds in the house...I actually REMOVED stuff from tables and dusted...

It was a beautiful thing.

I felt all inspired and Martha-like (less the 43 zillion dollars and hairstylist, of course)...

...

...

It was then that I received a cosmic message.

And I'm certain that what the higher power wanted me to know was...

Why wash windows or dust?

Ever.

Because we got hammered with one of the biggest dust storms in the history of Phoenix (aka the Valley of the Sunstroke)...

It looked like fog outside...but it was dust...

...and it went everywhere...including the windows and the floor boards and the wooden blinds and back all over the stuff I had just dusted...

...sigh...

I tried to tell Mr. Jenny that it was a cosmic sign that he should hire a housekeeper for me, but he didn't believe it.

So now I'm back with a to do list with nothing crossed off of it.

At all.

Dumb universe.

Dumb dust.

Sigh...

And I thought the dust here was bad! I read it was one mile high and 50 miles wide! Just how much dust did it deposit and how dark did it get? You need a good rainstorm, like we're having now!

When I saw the news I was betting that dust would wind up everywhere...in the house, in your ears and belly button, in your car....

Mozambique, Matlock!!!

Oh sorry about that dust storm, Jenny. I agree, Mr. Jenny should do some dusting, or hire a cleaning lady :-)

The pictures of the storm are incredible! They reminded me of the dust storms in the movie "The Mummy"!

I think you deserve the Housekeeper!

That is a huge dust storm. I am so sorry it came in and undid all your dusting. That is just not fair! Mr. Jenny should get you that housekeeper to stay on top of things like that. Hugs

uh huh...yep....that's my excuse for dusty furniture too. Dust storm. Ha. {snicker} :)

Melinda said...

We saw this too. I know it is part of life there but really---messing with your dusting-HOW RUDE!!!!
My allergies would NOT be really happy with the event.

Happy Dusting :)

My sympathies on the dastardly sand storm. But basically, isn't house cleaning just keeping up with the dusty remains of everyday living? I always take to the idea, "A hundred years from now, what will matter about what I did today?" This eases my conscience when it starts to gang up on me. However, does anyone ever ponder how clean Marie Curie's house was>

Another man/woman communication difference.....what they hear from the cosmos.

This is why I have a small wooden sign in my home which reads "Martha doesn't live here.....and that's a good thing"
^o^ xo

All I can say is "wow" you poor thing. I think I would rather have a snowstorm than a dust storm.
How does a city get rid of all the dust and dirt?

My Mother always told me dust was a protective coating! hugs, Linda

We saw the storm on the news - amazing and terrifying! And I thought of you. And dust everywhere. Sigh.

The story on the massive haboob was buried in the Anthony trial coverage. I was wondering if you were affected by it. I tell you what: Joette, my cleaning lady sure could use some more work. I'll send her your way.

I saw that on the news. It was freakin' huge! All I can say is get a huge box of swifter's, cause you know good ole Martha has a kajillion helper's to do her dusting! Have a great weekend!

Jenny, we both know that dust is a way of life in Arizona. I have a wodden sign on the top of Rod's highboy that reads, "You may touch my dust, but please do not write in it."

I occasionally use the hem of my tee shirt to wipe off a table when I walk by. I should sprinkle powdered sugar on the end tables and let the dogs help me dust.

Hello Jenny.
Living on the east coast, we don't have dust storms.
I am shocked at the enormity of this one. Looks like something they get in Africa! I didn't even hear about it on the news because all the stations are consumed with the Anthony case.

I'm just glad you & the family are OK.

Now to the cleaning...I know my wife would probably have a good cry, but she's a clean/neat freak and would be back to cleaning again in no time. If it were up to me, I would hire someone, but the wife says she doesn't want a stranger thumbing through our stuff and the cleaner wouldn't do it the way she does it, so my next suggestion would be for hubby to put on an apron & some rubber gloves and get to work to help you out.

That dust whatchamacallit is such an odd phenomenon. Can't believe it even made its presence known inside the house!

What a pain.

I saw that on tv ... it looked amazing ... well dirty and scary, but also amazing ... okay, so now summer in arizona is crossed off my "to see" list ... and i thought about you ... the whole city must just be one big dust bin right now ... hang in there ... and hire a housekeeper, they are the best things since sliced bread!!!

I decided housekeeping was a waste of time and energy, years ago, when, no matter what I did, it didn't last 5 minutes.

Ames said...

That is freaky! What's in that dust? Can't be good for you. That is just down right scarey!
My sister moved out there and got Valley Fever and has scar tissue on her lung now. You definitely need a huge rain storm like we are getting here in Florida. As far as the dusting goes, if I don't dust everyday I grow dust bunnies. It's never ending. Sometimes I just give them names and leave it be.~Ames

Amanda said...

That dust cloud looked SO scary. I've never seen anything like it before. And to have that happen after a cleaning? Double whammy!

Very discouraging for sure.

Busy Bee Suz said...

Oh my gosh...everything must be a mess now!!! You need a few rain storms to cleanse it again...but that won't help the inside of your house.
Lets start a petition for you getting a house helper!

NatureGirl said...

It is a sign Jenny...listen to the universe. My mother just bought a home in Maricopa in which to retire in a year or so. It is stinking hot there...why!!??

Rebecca S. said...

That dust storm looks like something from The Wizard of Oz. I'm not sure even a housekeeper could manage against that kind of dust :)

Amy said...

That is an AMAZING storm. Wow! I think it is a cosmic message to get a house cleaner. You can't be expected to stay on top of cleaning the house when you have a pulitzer winning blog to attend to! :)

Allie said...

Glad you and Steve are doing okay. I was so worried. Not hitting the reunion this weekend, but we wouldnt have to dust if we had .. lol ... love you!

Terra said...

OMG - I can so relate to that! I paid to have my windows cleaned once...rained like hell the next day - 6 years later you can't hardly see out my windows (exaggerating) but seriously I will never do that again!

Snore, snore, I am so tired after having read all your cleaning work ! I just collapsed on the couch ! It's your fault if I can't answer my comments now !

Mr. Jenny should listen to the universe or he might be struck by lightning. The universe isn't messing around (well, actually...)

Bargain Decorating with Laurie said...

Oh I do like your way of thinking! It could be applied to every house cleaning chore - why make the bed when we are going to sleep in it tonight; why vacuum the floors when the dog is shedding 24/7? That was a huge dust storm. We had one here in Ark. recently, and we were driving on the hwy when it happened. Yikes! If your prompt or word limit gets any more difficult, I think I'll have to throw up my hands. I'm afraid-very afraid! laurie

Really BIG SYMPATHY to you Jenny. We saw this on the news and I was horrified, thinking of what it must be like for you down there.

The pictures of that dust storm were pretty scary!

Unknown said...

Wow! I just read about this over at Jen Denton's blog and I'm really amazed at this whole haboob thing. Maybe the cosmic message is less about hiring a housekeeper but that it's time you gave up spring cleaning as it's no longer spring :)

H said...

That is rather a large dust storm! Glad you are all ok, but sorry about the mess it has left behind. I'm glad your grandlittles were away on holiday. It must have been very frightening, trapped in the house with that thick dust swirling round! How long did it last?

Whoa! That was a crazy storm! just amazing!
You left out Martha's team of little fairies who are the ones who actually do all the work.
