Never Forget

Where were you when the world stood still?
In that moment the world became changed

With an imprint of terror
Forged forever in fire
When destruction fell down like fall rain?

Were you drinking your coffee?
Were you driving to work?
Were you holding your babe to your heart?
Were you humming a song?
Were you righting a wrong?
Were you ironing your favorite shirt?

Where were you when the world broke in
disrupting your everyday plans?
and disturbing the notion
that safety and peace
were the inalienable rights of all man…

Were you calling your mother?
Were you taking a bath?
Were you going through the motions of your day?
Were you baking a cake?
Were you planning a break up
and trying to find  the right words to say?

Where were you when the message came
That nothing in life is for sure?
And all we get is each moment with no guarantees
of tomorrow, next week or next year…

Are you speaking a kind word?
Are you doing your part
to comfort and never cause pain?
Remember those moments
With your head and your heart
So the terror did not happen in vain…

Remember the message, remember the date
Remember nothing in life is for sure
for all we get is each moment with no guarantees
of tomorrow, next week or next year…

Lovely poem, Jenny.

September 11th, 2001, is one of those dates to remember - and we do remember what we were doing (I was at work) - in the same way that many remembered what they were doing November 22nd, 1963 (when JFK made a visit to Dallas Texas) or what our parents or grandparents remember doing on December 7th 1941 (when the Japanese attacked the naval base at Pearl Harbor on Hawaii, marking the US' entrance into the Second World War).

Best wishes,
Anna

Beautiful. It's sad we measure our life sometimes by the sorrow. May we never forget.

A beautiful, beautiful poem, Jenny. That year, 9/11 was my daughter's first day of her sophomore year in high school.

I hope you had the chance to look at my blog on Wednesday. It features some of your art.

Love,
Janie

I miss you, Jenny. I'm back to blogging again, and I'd like to be back to talking with you. <3

A few weeks ago, I left you a comment, but I looked back at the post, and I don't think it ever went through. :\ Anyway, I'm glad to see you're still during your Thursday alphabet games. And this was a sweet post about 9/11. Thanks for always being so awesome, Jenny. Love you, lady.
