I woke up this morning...

...feeling positive and ready to share a giveaway and some cool news with all of you!

Some of the yuck has lifted and I feel a lot more like me!

Because I feel a lot more like me...

I am craving flour.   Big time.

I am gluten-sensitive and when I get certain flare-ups I need to eliminate gluten and dairy.

Okay.

Technically, I'm supposed to do it ALL the time...

...but let's just say I'm a little less AWARE when I'm feeling pretty good.

This morning I got up and told Mr. Jenny, "I'm hungry!  I want something bread-y and gluten-like!"

I think I heard him mutter, 'Good luck with that," under his breath, but I was not to be deterred.

I rummaged through my pantry.

Eureka!

EUREKA!

An entire unopened package of GF biscuit mix.

Woo hoo.

I mixed it up.

I tasted the raw dough.

Ummm...yeah.

But I figured once it was baked it would be totally delicious and bread-like and gluten-like.

I waited impatiently by the oven.

It didn't look bread-like but, hey, looks can be deceiving, right?

I let the non-biscuit-like things cool a minute and then put a little butter and sugar-free black raspberry jelly on there.

I took a big bite.

GACCCKKK!!!!

GACCCCCCKKKKK!!!!

I re-read the package instructions to see if somehow I missed reading 'toxic chemicals' in the ingredient list.

I hadn't.

Accckkkk!!!

GACCCCKKKK!!!!

Mr. Jenny wandered by the kitchen and asked if he could have a biscuit!

"Please, by all means...take several...they're delicious!" I told him sweetly.

Shortly afterwards I heard a kind of gagging noise coming from his office.

He came out looking horrified.   "Ummm...what are these things?"

"Gluten-free, dairy-free biscuits!   Aren't they yummy?"

Now understand that Mr. Jenny eats ANY THING.   EVERY THING.   He does not discrimminate.   The man used to eat fried earthworms in Mexico City for heavens sake.

But the biscuits were too much for him.

Determined not to let a nasty little lump of dough win out, I threw two of the disgusting little things into an egg batter and tried making french toast out of them.

Even maple syrup couldn't save them.

That should attest to their serious yuckiness.

The reason for this story is that I can't possibly share good news with you after being bested by a biscuit.

So it'll have to wake until next week!

I have a fun giveaway tied to the good news so stop by again if you get a chance.

And in the meantime...

Do NOT under any circumstances attempt to assuage flour cravings with GF biscuits.

It is not a pretty thing.

Sigh.

If turning them into French toast with maple syrup didn't help them, nothing could. I do applaud your effort.

Every time I make good, old-fashioned country biscuits, I have such guilt! I am sorry that those biscuits were so awful, but there has got to be an alternative that doesn't taste like dried mud. Still, guilt makes me feel so bad on so many levels.

Jenny, go to Fry's and buy Pamela's Baking and Pancake mix...it is about $18.99 for four pounds...so worth it. It is in like the heathy aisle...we have been gluten free for a year and this has been a life saver for us...all the recipes on the back are delish..There is also a bread and flour mix...I haven't made the biscuits but the bread machine bread is good.

LOL! I read an article about a mom and daughter that have a bakery in Texas that is gluten free! They got tired of eating golf ball tasting pastries and breads so they opened their own business! They are making a ton of money! Now if I could find the darn magazine I would tell you the name of the bakery. Ha Ha! I am tired for a long hard work week. Hugs Anne

Good for you for at least trying to make the biscuits into something better. Hey! Maybe it could be a dog treat?

Most GF things I've tasted are beyond disappointing.

I even tried a crepe once. Yuck.

Jenny, you kill me everytime!...lol...I tried some gluten free seeded crackers a few years ago and actually liked them...but then again....I am freakish like that sometimes! How did you find out that you're gluten sensitive?...maybe that's my problem?...hmmm...let me know if I need to be poked with a needle...I did have my son checked awhile ago but he was negative...for celiac disease.
Take care,
Patti :)

Poor Jenny. I think your Heaven will be clouds of fluffy bread and pasta and gluten. And none of it will stick to hips or any other part.
