I have been on this road before...

It unspools before me like the ribbon of my life…

 I drive across the prairies…
and over the mountains...
..and the road narrows ahead in the straight line of a lesson in drawing perspective.

Other people's lives flash by the window...

I am older now by dozens of years…

But it seems I am still bickering with my sisters on too long family travels…

I am still blasting the radio in my Mustang and squinting into the Midas afternoon…

I am still a young bride…

Admiring the glint of a diamond I thought meant forever…

…on a hand unlined by age resting lightly on the steering wheel.

I am a young mother…

offering admonitions along with peanut butter sandwiches…

Forever didn't last very long.

 And I am alone again…

Single and broken…

Crying failed loved songs along with the radio.

I am in pain.

I am in joy.

I try again.

I am in love.

I am shouting.

I am silent.

I am holding on.

I am letting go.
 I am dreaming of yesterday.

I am dreaming of tomorrow.

I am riding.

I am driving…

And still…

Still the road stretches ahead.

The line of the road keeps on rolling.

And all I can do is wonder what is coming next ...

and go along for the ride.

Because even though I’ve been on this road before…

I will never pass this way again.

good morning Jenny. a beautiful and obviously heartfelt post, though I'm trying to understand its meaning and not wanting to jump to conclusions. I hope everything is ok there.
(In school I hated when we had to decipher poetry.. I was never good at it.)
hoping you have a lovely day.

We all have to go thru valleys, climb high mountains and even ride around some winding roads:) It is how we handle all of this that matters! Loved your post! Have a blessed day, HUGS!

Thanks for taking us along on the ride... beautifully written. It is scary to me how fast time passes. Just know we'll always be there, no matter where that bend in the road turns :) Lots of good wishes and hugs your way. -Tammy

I've had a very similar road and come to the same conclusions.

Here's to tommorow and what it may bring!

That's beautiful. It's amazing that forever doesn't always work.

Your gift of words is like a song! I love everything you write...I don't comment enough!

Isn't it interesting how our perspective changes over the years? How we find beauty in the slowness and the stillness? Not in such a hurry anymore. One of the gifts of age I suppose!

Ah, the road of life with all it's journeys. Nothing is forever, but what's in front of me right now is really good. Thanks for the lovely metaphor, Jenny.
