We have a lot of them here.
You know.
Decorating the house, having people for dinner, dyeing eggs and making Easter sugar cookies.
Etc.
However.
There is one tradition that I am not so fond of.
It involves Easter eggs.
Each year I invite anyone over that wants to dye eggs.
I buy a lot of eggs.
On sale.
I usually buy NINE OR TEN DOZEN!
Gasp!
Apparently this is an obscene number of eggs.
Or so says Mr. Jenny.
Each year, he wanders out to the kitchen where he sees my huge stock pot bubbling away on the stove filled to the brim with eggs.
Every year, he gasps in horror.
"Geez! That's a lot of eggs! What are you thinking?" He says.
I say, "Yes, it's a lot of eggs, but everyone takes some home AND I make deviled eggs and egg salad."
And every year he looks pale and says, "It just looks like a LOT of eggs."
And then we have our traditional Easter argument.
I an annoyed voice I reply, "I buy these eggs AND the dye AND the vinegar for under twenty bucks! Where else can you go and have at least an hour of fun with the family for twenty BUCKS!"
Mr. Jenny retorts, "You don't have to rip my head off. I was just asking. Geez."
I sigh.
And sigh again.
And say sweetly, "Seriously! Every year we have this conversation. You'd think you'd remember what I say."
And then I add, "So, just don't eat the deviled eggs and egg salad and then I won't have to make so many next year."
And Mr. Jenny sighs.
And sighs again.
And says as he does every single year, "I was just commenting. You don't have to get so huffy over the Easter eggs."
Ah.
Traditions.
The stuff families are made of.
The magical act of weaving forever memories.
I can picture it now...
Me...
...on my death bed...
Mr. Jenny leaning in sweetly...
In a sad little voice he will whisper, "I just want to confess in these final moments that I always thought you made too many Easter eggs!"
YessireeBob...
Traditions just warm the heart...
AND...
I'd totally invite you over to help us dye eggs today, but Mr. Jenny already ate two and I think I might not have enough.
Sigh.

I'm a fan always have been of decorating our eggs, only this year gee what a new trick I learned that saved all those sad often times cracked or broken eggs! I baked my eggs in the oven 325 for 30 minutes! Perfect eggs, and they even peel well, and no broken or cracked (or blown up) oh except for my dear darling little Mason who crack-crack there goes another one as he needs to taste test just one more grandma!!!!
LOL, I just love the way your brain works. Have a great Easter..
I am being a bad grandmom and leaving town for Easter.
....actually I scheduled the trip without realizing it was Easter and all the traditions will carry on without me. At least I don't have to fill and hide a dozen dozen eggs. :)
LOL. I had a hard enough time figuring out how to use up the 4 dozen that we made every year. Hey, I had two kids that loved to dye. We had so much fun with our yearly color wheel art lesson, I tell you.
I laughed about the death bed whispering. What a great post! You go decorate eggs, girl.
Love,
Janie
This is so funny. I love hard boiled eggs straight up or in egg and olive sandwiches. Deviled eggs are a favorite with friends and family or a a side dish with just about aqnything.
As far as I'm concerned, you can never have too many hard boiled eggs.
Thanks for the Easter laugh.
Please don't ask about Easter traditions I have just fallen out mega style with my son because I have a friend over for dinner and am not able to drop everything and go round for dinner.
I asked weeks ago what they w doing and was informed that they were busy and had plans
Guess I am meant to be a mind reader and live a lonely life just incase my son calls .
Aaaaaaaagggggggghhhhhhhh
And you just argue over devilled eggs lol
Well save some for me when I come over next week.....I'll definitely take some home, cuz we love egg salad and deviled eggs here. I don't have any younguns here anymore, so we don't dye the eggs.....I miss it. Thank you again for coming over yesterday, it was such a treat to see you again.......you are just one of the brightest, and biggest hearted people I know and I truly treasure your friendship. By the way....our old family tradition was to have egg wars, you know where two people each have an egg, and you have a little rhyming saying (which I've forgotten) and then you commence with the cracking of each others eggs together. The first egg to crack their shell is the loser....did you ever play that game? We usually made what we call a "pigeon" egg, too, which was dyed using all the colors and it would be dark and ominous looking. I'm so happy Archie didn't bite your pretty pedicure yesterday. Okay, enough for now, I'll see you next week pretty lady......I'm so excited.
Love ya'
Meri
One of those traditions we ALL enjoy:) I will be over shortly and bring my own eggs! I know it will be fun! Have a blessed Easter Weekend, HUGS!
Try the Kool-aid variation.
See my current post.
M :)
awe what a post .... no eggs for me this year ... still waiting for my daughter to find the man of her dreams, get married, and start having babies ... the college years are killer years ... all of this waiting ...lol!
Fun post and some traditions will never die!
Holy smokes Jenny, that is a lot of eggs!!! Happy Easter! Cathy
Ha! That guy. Well, I am all for beaucoup eggs at Easter (my mother-in-law led the way on that one), so here's to weeks of egg salad and deviled eggs. Happy Easter.
A terrific phamily tradition! We did not dye eggs last year but I may buy a dozen or two. I found a few new ideas to dye eggs so I may try them! LOL!
Yesseree - tradition is important! We boil, dye and decorate eggs and then we have an egg-cracking contest. I won last year, but every year we have a traditional chat about how The Great Dane won last year.
Which he didn't.
hahaha
This is funny. Dave always used to think I wasn't making enough!
=D
Beautiful expressions here
Mr. Jenny would die if he heard what we do! I buy dozens and dozens of eggs EVERY WEEK. :-/ My husband has been using them in his lil "bulking" fitness routine for a few years and he eats 6 eggs a day! :-o
Horrible, for SURE.
