I need to start doing some thumb exercises...

...just in case I misplace my glasses again.

It's allergy season here in Arizona.

My nightfall my contacts are burning, so I resort to my glasses...

...the coke bottle bottom ones.

Even with all the compressed blah, blah, blah materials of modern eye-glass technology they are still thick.

And I am still pretty blind when I don't have them.

I have the habit of reading when I go to bed at night to defrag from the day.

And I can't ever, ever go to sleep unless I do read.

However.

A few nights back I couldn't actually find my glasses.

I frantically patted everything around the sink and tub and couldn't locate them!  I involved Mr. Jenny in the catostrophic event!

Hey.   He likes it.

And that's what husbands are for...

Right?

After he listened to my freak out for a few minutes...

("OMG!  I can't find my glasses!   I can't read!   How am I going to sleep?  OMG!  OMG!")

...he helped me look.

To no avail.

Finally I remembered that I have a basic model, non-touch screen Kindle.   The kind you advance pages by clicking the button on the sides.

And it has adjustable font.

I let out a sigh of relief and climbed into bed.

Mr. Jenny lay next to me reading his own book.

I enlarged the font to the maximum so I could read, too.

(click, click, click, click, click)

After a few minutes Mr. Jenny looked at me in annoyance and said, "What are you doing?   Why are you wiggling so much? And what is that annoying noise?"

"I'm not wiggling," I replied and continued reading.

(click, click, click, click, click)

A few more minutes elapsed and he asked me again.

"I'm not wiggling...I'm just reading!"

He glanced over at the Kindle screen that I was holding about two inches away from my nose.

"Let me see that.  Why are the words so huge?" he asked crankily
.

"So I can see them to read them.   Geez."

I resumed reading...

(click, click, click, click, click)

and after a few minutes I stopped.

"My thumb hurts," I whined. "My thumb hurts AND I can't find my glasses! And it is taking forever to get through just a paragraph!"

Mr. Jenny took the Kindle from my hands again.

I took it back.

"Just go to sleep," he said testily, "You're not reading a book.  You're reading an eye chart."

I tried reading a few more sentences

(click, click, click, click, click)

and gave up.

He was right, after all.

It was like reading an eye chart.

And my thumb was totally exhausted.

And WHO put my glasses in the drawer with the toothbrushes anyway?

Grrrrr.

Sigh.

I can totally relate... well, except that I don't have a Kindle, but I do have to read to go to sleep... If I were to put my glasses anywhere but on my bedside table, I'd NEVER find them in the morning!

I hate to say it but it may be time for one of those chains around your neck.....I mean for your glasses, not your Kindle. Well, maybe for both since you would have the same problem if you couldn't find your Kindle.

So glad you found your glasses. It's amazing how things can hide themselves in the most unexpected places!

You crack me up, Jenny.

But on a serious note, losing your glasses is serious business. I've been known to go wacko after losing mine...

It's allergy season here too and waking up with blurry watery eyes is no fun.

I hardly wear my glasses anymore...for some reason I find them hindering more than helping lately and lay them down in numerous different places which I promptly forget!!

so glad this story had a happy ending (the eyechart image was just too funny, though I apologize for laughing at your challenges.)

When I take off my glasses, I have to set them down in the same place every time or I can't find them again cuz I can't see a blessed thing either. And I don't have a Mr. Janie to help me find them.

Love,
Janie

There's nothing more irritating than not being able to find your glasses, especially with a good book in hand.

One time I left my glasses AND the book I was reading in the refrigerator. Must have been more interested in the midnight snack than reading.

I had no clue where I put either my reading glasses or the book until breakfast.

So funny and so true, I read from my Kindle Paperwhite every night too...I see how using that largest size print could be really annoying. I have 5 pair of cheap reading glasses kept in different rooms, so I could stop looking for them, but every now and then one moves away!

God bless ya sweetie and have a great day!!! :o)

Oh my gosh...that was an eye chart! Bless your heart....I'm getting to that point too. I don't even try to read without my glasses or contacts. Pitiful.
Mr Jenny should remember where you put your glasses though; isn't that what husbands do?

a tale of loss and woe!

I read to go to sleep, too. but a book. and no glasses. I can see very well up close without glasses. But I am VERY nearsighted!

can't read without my specs either - um - I don't need it quite as big yet though.

I feel your pain...
I gave in and got bifocals. They work well, but walking down stairs can be an adventure...
