Who knew that there are really houses where a bunch of wives and kids live together with one husband...
In harmony...
Or not.
Sister wives. For real.
Who knew?
I'll be honest.
I wouldn't mind having Brother Husbands...
That would be a whole different thing, really...
You know...
Chef Husband, Masseuse Husband, Cleaning Husband, Repair Husband and few other guys for ....ummm... assorted other things...
BUT...
I digress.
Today I went into a house being remodeled by some people I know previously owned by a Polygamist who lost his house in a foreclosure...
There were 18 bedrooms.
Eighteen.
Mostly teensy, weensy little bedrooms...like cells in a jail.
There was a very luxe master suite area that kinda/sorta made me queasy.
All those teensy/weensy little bedrooms and THAT GREAT BIG MASTER SUITE.
There was a great big bathroom in the great big master suite.
And two or three other teensy, weensy little bathrooms scattered elsewhere through the confusing maze of the rest of the house.
Eighteen.
Bedrooms.
Two or three bathrooms.
A GREAT BIG MASTER SUITE AND BATHROOM.
I dunno.
Had I been living in that house I would have had to stage a revolt to overthrow the inequality in housing arrangements.
I would have had to make posters saying stuff like "There is no 'me' in polygamy!" "Worker bees...sting back!" "Just say NO to polygamy!"
Had I been living in that house I would have had to...
Oh, heck.
Who am I kidding.
A polygamist guy would never have picked me anyway to part of his...ummm...polygamy thing.
I'm too loud.
Too outspoken.
Too unwilling to follow the whims of a polygamy master person.
And living in one of those teensy, weensy bedrooms would have given me claustrophobia.
It makes me sad and mad and just plain hostile to think of women and children in this situation.
Eighteen teensy, weensy bedrooms.
ONE GREAT BIG MASTER SUITE.
Just.
Ickkkk!
Because I'm so 'icked out', I'm gonna abandon the whole plural husband idea and just stick with Mr. Jenny. After all, he does grill a mean hot dog, rub lotion on my feet to be sweet, and vacuum. Okay. He's not that great at repairing things, true, but he is good at many...ummm...other things.
AND...
He never, ever, ever tries to make me sleep in the teensy/weensy little bedroom.
I always get to share the great big master suite with him! Just me and him...
...every.
...single.
...night.
Sigh...
PS. True story. I went there today. And, yes, I feel awful to think of anyone living in a situation like this. So sad to think of being lost like that in the midst of millions of people.

Jenny- I too feel sorry for these women. It seems like the men really get the better deal most of the time in situations like this.
I love being the one and only - cherished and loved- just me-by my sweetie.

I was never much good at sharing!
Completely agree, sick and in fact I would go so far as to say wicked.
that truly is sad :O i would never be able to live like that... sharing is for cookies, not boys!
That is really sad and gross!! Sorry you had to see that!!!
Makes one wonder why 'any' woman would live in such a way.
Geesh, not me... NO sirree BOB! I am a ONE woman MAN, the Master and the Master bedroom are mine ALL mine!
Hope your package will be there soon! It says it has left Utah...
HUGS!
It's a bit like being a Stepford wife only plural with no hair stylist and a bolt of fabric. Now to think they live contained in a matchbox . . . I'll have to pass.
I'm with you on this one. I like occupying the master bedroom with my man. I feel so sorry for those women caught in such a situation.
yuck...
so sad that they have no more self esteem than that
I really don't understand that cocept either. Not for me--really am not interested in sharing Mr. Ken with ANYONE else.
M :)
Eighteen tiny bedrooms? How sad. There's no way I could be happy in such a relationship, or see my daughter in one. For a lot of the world, this is okay (I once worked in a ladies' shop and a middle eastern diplomat brought his wives to shop - what an eye opener that was!) but I don't believe that there is anything good for a woman in it.
As tempting as having a Gardener Husband, a Vacuumer Husband, a Dish Washer husband (etc!) I think we'll stay with the one-man-one-woman model!
Ladies, I'm surprised that none of you picked up on the foreclosure thing. Any man who has eighteen wives, each one with a MasterCard, deserves everything he ends up with. There's more than one way to skin a cat.
Honestly, I am too needy and have a hard enough time sharing my husband with his homework! If any other woman came in, I think I would try to claw her eyes out. Sharing a husband?! Living in a teensy weensy bedroom? I am sorry, I have a hard time with my kids tiny bedroom right now, I cannot fathom how any mother would be okay with that. And sharing a man's attention? Really? So not okay.
Crazy that you got to see that. And honestly, I would join your rally about the worker bees etc. :) Always humor despite the seriousness. I love you Jenny!
It is so easy to get lost in the 'reality' tv of some show that we forget about the itty bitty rooms and what it means for the kids.
I am lucky. I have a great hubby that likes me in the room with him every night. Now if only I can get him to rub my feet...
I love being in the master suite!
Very sad for the women and children to be so totally controlled and confined by some egomaniac. How will those kids cope in life?
What's even sadder is that he probably convinced them that it was their religious duty to go along with his polygamy game. Disgusting.
I just do not "get it"...how did anyone ever convince the women this was a good thing? I mean..just the "Picture" in my mind of what transpires omy--it boggles the mind [mine anyway] And the MAJOR EGO A MAN MUST HAVE ..i can't go on you wouldnt want me to say what I am thinking. Could we have A NEW TOPIC PLEASE JEN??
JONELL
to live a life of always being 2nd best... or even further down the line but even 2nd is bad. well, it's just sad. someone should have given these girls the confidence and knowledge that they are good enough when they were little. :(
It's reality here in Utah. I pass by compounds all the time and it always makes me a little sad. Sometimes you will see some guy in the grocery store with a few women of differing ages all dressed in pioneer type clothing and a bunch of kids...
yikes! It isn't as cool as they made it out to be on Big Love....
xxoo,
RMW
I feel the same way...but I think most of those women don't even know what they are missing. Sad.
yeah, lets just stick with what we have Jenny!
xo
They marry too close in the old gene pool and their poor children are born with Fumarase deficiency. It has been proven that they marry children as well. That is just sick and illegal too.
I watched an episode on TV about a Polygamist colony in Bountiful, Canada. Those woman work hard to exist while their husband is off doing what ever. No thanks! That life is not for me!!~Ames
I'll never be able to understand that sort of situation, but I guess that's why I refuse to be in it myself!
No doubt the polygamous male chauvinist is the maximum.
I watched 10 minutes of "Sister Wives" I had a sick feeling in my stomach and sadness for the women & children. As for the 'husband', what an arrogant, manipulative, controlling idiot !
I am glad I am the one & only to my one & only...almost 40 years now.
The whole idea of polygamy is insane to me. Pardon my brain for picturing ONE rooster and a half-dozen hens. This doesn't belong in the human world, with humans involved.
I'm with you. I have to be number one and cannot take a number or wait my turn.
I believe you've topped yourself with this one. Love it.
Now maybe it's just me, but I can't see how that is a good thing on any level. Okay, maybe on one level only. Other than that, I just don't get it. One woman can be difficult enough. They'd all be yelling at me for one thing or another. No thanks!
I want brother husbands too! One for each chore I have in my life..
Something is just not right with this set up though..
Can't even imagine. I am not good at sharing.
=)
