The cost of freedom...

This intense little poem is linked to week 161 of Saturday Centus.   The prompt is in bold.   To read other uses of this prompt, just click here.

Who are you for me to die?

To defend your land,

your life,

your pride.

On the battlefields of night…

... two opposing forces fight!

And in the conflict of the two

I’m trapped.

I’m caught.

And all for you.

The flag we share

Red, white and true.

Who are you to feel my sweat?

As I face the practiced hand of death?

(with pounding heart)

(with prayers at hand)

March, march forward in foreign land.

Look ahead.

Don’t look behind.

Focus, focus …task on hand.

Who are you for me to die?

My brother, father, sister…why?

I’m terrified.

I march.

I fall.

All gave some. Some gave all.

Wow. Wow. Wow.

We all need to ask ourselves these questions and hope that the answer comes up. I am someone worthy of your sacrifice or at the very least am trying to be..

The same could be said of The Lord and His sacrifice for us, but we know that none of us is worthy of that great a sacrifice yet that's the beauty of grace. It is free and undeserved. A gift. The pearl of great price. The love that surpasses all loves.

And for our fallen heroes we need to always remember, no greater love hath man than this that he lay down his life for his friend.

Lovey poem, Jenny. Very thought provoking.

XO,

Sheila

That is something we really take for granted. This poem is very moving. I was talking with my son about 9/11 today? So this poem is really poignant today.
