Because I have no health insurance
I cut my pills in half each day.
I always have more month than meds.
It doesn’t have to be that way.
My kids cried again last night at bed…
Not enough food to keep hunger at bay.
I always stretch but there’s never enough.
It doesn’t have to be that way.
My Dad always told me, “You hafta work hard,
When the sun is shining, make your hay!”
I’ve toiled and baled but I’m always behind.
It doesn’t have to be that way.
I’m looking for sunshine, I’m looking for hope,
I’m looking for something beyond skies of gray.
Tomorrow’s a new day, it’s gotta get better!
Why, pray tell, is it still this way?

Sad but good because it is on the mark for some people. Nice work.
Jenny, You have a gift for bringing our nation's problems to the fore and making us think about the unthinkable. As always, I applaud your incredible talent.
Namaste..........cj
oh man. that was truly beautiful. I think I'm going to have to start cutting the pills in half after this month. I feel the pain.
Well, I asked for it, and I got it. Wow! After watching 60 Minutes tonight (not on my list of disgusting reality t.v.) I am even more convinced that if people like Gingrich or Romney get into the White House, your offering will grow exponentially.
It is interesting to me that if the 1% are forced to pay more taxes, the prediction is that their charitable donations will drop.
Very relevant for too many people. Seems like that ought to be a song...
This makes me so sad because I know a lot of people are going through this.
There was a day not that long ago that this wasn't a common element....very sad, and very true, more than some people may want to believe...nicely written, Jenny...
More and more people are finding themselves in that situation all the time.
Wow! As I read this I thought of the famous pic of the poor migrant woman with her children. This was deep and intense Jenny. I think you covered it well! ~Ames
I think we need to stop "needing" so much stuff, and get back to multi-generational households, so people don't have to decide whether to pay the rent or get a prescription filled.
Profound, Jenny. And beautifully written, too!
=)
Sad - but very well written! I understand what it's like...
