Pillsbury Not-Bake-Off Conclusion

So...I spend another $112 dollars on Pillsbury products but I still like the recipe I have.

Even though it is sort of plain.

Even though it is not really, really amazing but just super tasty.

And the final test is making my husband make the recipe. He does not bake. Ever. But it works and it taste pretty good.

And on April 19, the day before the deadline AND my birthday I send my recipe off.

I have no worries whatsoever. My recipe is definitely the winner.

The Pillsbury website says they will notify finalists on September 1.

Times flies...probably because I'm so busy going to the naturopath trying to fix my sugar/flour overload problems. May, June, July, August and then it is September.

I pretend I don't remember they will call you around September 1. I don't want to be too sure of myself, ya know.

While I'm out running errands that day I keep checking my voice mail. Hmmm.... No call. That's weird. I check my caller ID. No call. Hmmm.... that's weird. I check my e-mail, nada, zip, nothing.

Well, maybe they meant to say September 2nd. Yea, that's it.

Repeat this exercise of checking voice mail, e-mail, caller ID for the rest of the week.

It dawns on me that my recipe isn't a finalist.

WHAT???????????

How can this be?

I look at my recipe again. Yes, it is kind of boring but it is tasty.

And as September morphed into October I finally faced the cold hard truth that my recipe is not a finalist.

And I also had to face the fact that my happy little friend was really not my happy little friend. Apparently that smile just covers up the fact that he is a heart-breaker. A total heart-breaker I tell ya.

But, please don't worry about me. I have my sad little life as a non-Pillsbury-bake-off winner. I still have a few unshattered hopes and dreams. I still refuse to make the little cherry pies with biscuits and cherry pie filling.
WAIT! What is this? My spread sheet was flawed?????? The cherry pies only won $10,000.00???? WHAT!!!! Who put those two extra zeros in. They only won $10,000.00!!!!

Well criminy. That explains why they didn't pick my recipe. It was my spread sheet error. Well, geez Louise.

Oh, and by the way....here's the actual looser recipe I submitted:

1 Pillsbury refrigerated pie crust (1/2 of a 15 oz box)
4 T. room temperature Land-o-lakes butter
1 cup PLUS 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
1 teaspoon of pure almond extract
1 1/2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
1 8 oz. can Pillsbury recipe creations crescent rolls
1 4 oz. package sliced almonds

1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Spray cookie sheet with non-stick cooking spray.
2. Unroll pie crust directly onto greased cookie sheet. Poke surface all over with a fork. Bake pie crust on the center rack of the oven for 12 – 14 minutes until golden brown all over. Remove pie crust to countertop or cooling rack to cool.
3. While pie crust is baking stir together 4 tablespoons of softened butter, 1 cup of powdered sugar, (reserving 2T for later) 1 teaspoon of almond extract and 1 ½ teaspoons of vanilla extract. Refrigerate mixture.
4. Lower oven temperature to 375 degrees.
5. Unroll 1 can of chilled crescent rolls. Lightly press together any holes that may occur.
6. Spread crescent rolls evenly with chilled butter mixture, edge to edge.
7. Sprinkle ½ cup of sliced almonds evenly over butter mixture.
8. Crumble cooled pie crust and spread evenly over almonds.
9. Lightly press down the pie crust and almonds.
10. Starting with long side of the rectangle, roll up. Keep edges of roll even keeping as much almond/pie crust filling as possible inside the roll. With a sharp knife cut into eight even slices.
11. Place rolls on the same cookie sheet you baked the piecrust on spacing as far apart as possible. Distribute any loose almonds or pie crust onto the tops of each roll.
12. Press each roll down lightly.
13. Bake at 375 degrees on center oven rack for 13 - 18 minutes until golden brown.
14. Remove from oven and immediately sprinkle with 2 tablespoons of powdered sugar evenly divided between the eight rolls.
15. Best served at room temperature

Now I know I will have to try again in two years!

Gosh I feel so much better now.

In eighteen months I will just have to have a recipe dream and my quest will continue.

Yes! This isn't over.

But it is for you and this finally, finally, finally concludes my story!

But don't worry. I still have a lot of other weirdness in my brain to share!

Sigh...

Love your sense of humor, chick.....oh, and the CCR songs! Whoooo, sugar, we must be similar in age - in the mind anyway. I think I'm much older than you if your daughter is 20 something. Mine are 40 something and granddaughter is 30....anywhooooooo, nice to meet ya sugar. Thanks for dropping by and especially leaving a comment. So many are lurkers anymore! Hah.

Your recipe sounds so good Jenny! I love almonds. I think Pillsbury missed a good one...phooey on them!

Keep at it and remember you are a winner where it counts!

I'm sorry you didn't win, but you are a winner anyway! You have a great sense of humor and that is what counts. Stay with it, just think you have two whole years to experiment! I wanted to let you know that Dusty is doing OK. He's still not back to normal but he seems to be feeling better. They changed his pain medication and now he's not as aggressive, much more mellow. I guess it'll just take lots of time to heal. I'll wait, he's so worth it.
