So...my youngest sister

...who passed away several years ago has come back to haunt me.

Actually she comes to mind every single Valentines Day, but this year she totally messed me up.

When she was a little girl she used to run around telling everyone, "Happy VD!" on Valentines Day.

I was mortified.

That was back in the day when ummm.... bad diseases from ... ummm... doing bad things with ... ummm.... other people caused horrible sicknesses called ... ummm... venereal disease.

You might remember this if you're as old as me.

Now, of course, they call these ... ummm... bad diseases from ... ummm... doing bad things .... ummm.... STD's for ... ummm.... well ... you know.

(Geez, it is totally obvious in this post that I went to a Catholic school when I was a kid? ... sigh ...)

BUT...

What happened this year is I was all on top of my game getting my Valentines made and addressed and ready to go to the post office tomorrow...

...until I realized I had written on the inside of probably 20 or so of them..."Happy VD!"

And now I'm worried that if I send them to someone kinda/sorta old like me, they'll think I'm prying into their... ummm.... you know... ummm... personal life and be all offended.

So now I have to go back to cards I messed up and put some paper over that message so I can say something more intelligent like "Happy Heart Day".

I'm certain that was a little practical joke from my sister.

I can just visualize her now, chuckling, "Ha! She wrote Happy VD on all those cards!"...

and frankly...

it just ticks me off.

So ...

If you get a Valentine from me and see a piece of paper double-sticked taped to the inside, just ignore it.

If you don't, you might find yourself with a ghost in your house.

Just sayin'.

It's not so funny that I'm old enough to remember that.

Bless you for making me laugh on what promises to be an 'interesting" day. This is just too funny, did you really go back and change all those cards? I think it's sweet that your sis is still giving you fits, isn't that what sisters are for? Love you to bits! Kat

My sweet neighbor....used to call me on Valentines Day and wish me a Happy VD Day...she got such a tickle out of that and so did I!!!! I will miss her call this year...she has been gone for 5 years...but I will think of her!!!

You did not go in and change all of these!!!! Did you?

Wishing you a Happy Wednesday!!!

LOL! I wouldn't be offended - I am also not offended by x-mas...though we all know that gets a lot of goats stirring...

Hee. I'm not that old but I still remember the term for VD being used when they taught it to us in class. I wouldn't mind getting a card that said "Happy VD" on it :) It'll be an original....well as long as you don't give me VD through it (yes, yes, I know you can't pass VD through paper. You need to do the bad things in order to get the bad diseases)

I was drawing in the snow the other day...first a heart then my hubbies and my initials... V + D...
well needless to say I didn't use that one...went with D + V instead...

I would completely leave the VD on them. You must have done it for a reason, and sometimes you have to trust in things you don't understand, especially when they're funny.

Oh what a chuckle! I've had to figure out ways to "correct" my card mistakes as well. some have been more "um" creative than others!

Maybe they'll just think you're into altered art -- hope you did a creative shape or maybe a piece of lace. We have 3 flea mkts. in our town that are called STD #1, 2 & 3. It's always fun sending a visitor who's looking for flea mkts. to our STD's.

We always referred to it as VD day too. You are in good company.
I think.

'Cause Valentine Day is coming!

Maybe those receiving your VD cards would just think you are confused in your 'old age', Jenny and that you think it's Veterans Day!

SO you are passing on VD....that's OK. I think your sister is laughing somewhere!

Oops! But Jenny, you just taught me something...I didn't know what VD meant. lol.

I love, love how you mail Valentines out even though the internet has taken over. That is SO special! Ahem....even if they do say VD.

You just know they are messing with you when that happens. I think God has a big sense of humor and everyone up there is having good clean fun at our expense. I can't wait to get up there. I'll be popping in on few people I love too!
Happy "VD" I mean Valentine's Day dear Jenny! Sending you a big hug!~Ames

Well, hmmm that sounds like a lot of work...and since I think you and I are probably close to the same age, if I were on you Valentine list...and knowing it came from you...well I'd really think oh no! Just kidding...I think that saying was like so loooong ago...and there are so many other "My bad" "NOt" "SERIOULSY!" phrases out there....your Valentines people will love you anyway...VD on it or not...... really! ;)

I am old enough to remember those days, but sweet Jenny if I received a Valentine from you with VD on it I would never have thought of what VD once stood for. I would totally be thinking of Valentine's Day. :) Hugs

Rod's birthday is on VD, uh, I mean Valentine's Day. Thanks for the chuckle Miss Jenny! I am off this morning to select public art for Pima County. I don't know why they wanted me as a judge--I'm a pretty private person. HAHAHAHA!

P.S. Thank you so much for the valentine. I am one of your friends! That seriously made my day. And I didn't get the VD one. That would have made me laugh quite a bit. Instead, I just felt warm and squishy. Thank you.
