Darn.
I am an idiot.
And not in a good way.
If you've been visiting me at all lately, I'm sure you've heard me carrying on about moving.
I'm kinda/sorta liking it.
Even though I find myself challenging MYSELF!
About 12 months ago I packed up all the stuff I wanted to keep from our old house.
We moved to a much smaller house and, thus, relegated a whole bunch of boxes to storage.
I gloated and smirked and told Mr. Jenny how organized I was.
I'm not gloating OR smirking now.
Now I'm thinking, 'WHAT IDIOT PACKED THE BOXES THAT WENT INTO THE STORAGE UNIT?'
The reason I'm thinking this is the way
said IDIOT labelled the boxes.
I don't think it was me.
Even though
said IDIOT used my exact hand-writing and the same exact
purple sharpie that I always buy.
There's no way I would have written 'KABOOM' or 'WHO KNOWS WHAT'S IN THIS BOX!!!'
I would have remembered that.
There's no way I would have written 'STUFF' or 'WHO CARES!' on other boxes.
Is there?
Surely I would have been concise and orderly and included a little label itemizing the contents of each box.
Surely someone else spent a lot of time faking my handwriting in
purple sharpie because I totally can't recall doing this.
Sigh.
The 'KABOOM' box was half-filled with books and a pan lid wrapped in a sweater.
KABOOM?
Pan lid? Sweater?
Geez.
Sigh.
It's really irritating when I make things MORE challenging for myself.
Sigh.
KABOOM?
Seriously?

It sounds like you have a treasure hunt on your hands.
I'm guessing you were in a distressed frame of mind back then? Kaboom?? That is kinda funny Jenny!
Good luck.
XO
Oh Jenny, you knew that one day those words on those boxes would make me giggle;). AND it did. Big hugs and happy packing.
I love it! Every box a new surprise!
I like JDaniel4's idea. You could have quality family time by playing a daily hunt at the storage facility.
My, how I can relate to this. We've moved four times to five different apartmants. I've lost all sense of order or possessions. When I find something I like I've missed since 2007 I feel like it is Christmas. It is a struggle and I feel like a tumbleweed. Learn to let it go. xo Jenny
Jenny, you are just about the cutest thing out there. ;-) Thank you for sharing!
KABOOM!
Oh, and when we moved two years ago, we were packed by "professionals." Each box was labeled by room, so we knew about where to put it. Well, I'm getting ready to have a new munchkin, so I pulled out all the "baby room" boxes to start going through clothes and sorting things. One box, though, I couldn't even lift off the shelf, much less lug upstairs. I finally made hubby do it (because he's strong, and not Really Pregnant.) When I finally got the box open I found...a case of canned tomatoes. My missing garden tools. A cordless "electronic screwdriver" set. Car washing mitts. And THEN some baby clothes.
*facepalm*
(We, uh...didn't store tomatoes in the baby's room. OR tools, gardening or otherwise.)
So, you can feel better - the pros get creative, too. ;-)
I'm sorry - but that has made me laugh for an hour now - especially when I think of KaBoom! My son is an avid organizer - and has lots of boxes - each with name of room and entire contents - oh that I were so organized.
I worked at a storage facility for several years - and the stories I heard. One lady stored things in a packed 10 x 20 unit - for 12 years - paid a company to come pack it up and shipped it by truck to Maine where she had been living and when she opened the boxes she decided that she no longer liked any of it (not her style after 12 years) and then paid someone to haul it to the dump - talk about a LOT of wasted money.
One man had 7 very large units - he collected broken things all over town and stashed them in the units - when one was full he'd rent another - and some days he spent going through the outer edges of what he had stored - and the strange thing was - he was homeless and had no job - we never figured that one out.
Enjoy your searching, and know that we enjoyed your post about it.
My little sis is the moving expert - is moving again this week. Move number 28 or 30?!!!
Many of those moves were while her husband was in the Air Force.
But what I have noticed, is that she has much less clutter in her house than I have. I guess that's one of the blessings of moving!
Oh Jenny that packing can make us all lose our minds and write...junk, stuff, who cares on boxes!
Oh as funny as it seems, I believe this wasn't just a little gnome scribbling on those boxes! Because I remember how you were going through such bittersweet thoughts of packing up so many heartstrings and having to pack them away in a box- (besides letting go of the things you did too) what else could a woman do to save herself from all that stress! So yep, kaboom really sounds right- and of course who cares- even though you probably do really cherish the stuff inside the who cares box!!! Sounds like a box-opening-bash/party is in order! :)
Were you on medication when you were packing to store things? Maybe the depression made you lose your mind for a while? Poor baby, as if it isn't hard enough to find things after a move...just think of them as grab bags!
lol...well we know where you were at emotionally those days, don't we??? You are going to have fun....:) Hang in there my friend!
I did something similar when we moved about a year and half ago. For a little while I was organized, writing room names and "fragile" if it was warranted. But then I got kind of lazy, writing "Stuff" and I think I ever wrote "Decor crap" on another one. We are renting now so I'm dreading the thought of buying a house and moving again. But I know it will probably be coming soon!
Me thinks your state of mind was much different last move ... and the labels kinda show it ... just keep moving forward one box at a time! and think of all of the little surprises you are going to discover!!!
haha
I love ya, Jenny.
And that's the truth.
=D
Packing sucks. I have done it way too many times -- the most recent move I packed while wearing a back brace for my broken back. I should have written "$&#*! kitchen crap" on boxes.
Love,
Janie
Oh my! When we moved six years ago I wrote a number on each box and then I had papers that said what was in each box detailed. Then I made copies of that said list so we wouldn't lose it. God help you!
And there was me thinking you were like Mary Poppins, practically perfect in every way
I SO WOULD HAVE DONE THAT! This cracked me up! Especially under the circumstances of your move I am sure you were THRILLED to be packing! So, this time HAVE FUN! ENJOY! take your time...smell the roses.
Now I know who labeled the boxes in my storage building... IT WAS YOU!
i think the old saying goes, if you haven't used it in a year, you should get rid of it. of course, this would not apply to the sweater wrapped frying pan, the photo albums or that vase your aunt gave you when you got married. best of luck tucking all where it needs to go.
At the time of writing the labels, I bet it all made perfect sense ;)
There had to have been a reason, Jenny, and a good one.
Personally, when we move I have many KABOOM moments!
Hi Jenny! Granny always said that if you move and have to pick between what goes into your new place and what doesn't, then the "what doesn't" pile, should be discarded. I LOVE getting rid of stuff! Yep, especially my wife's stuff....
Hope you are doing well!
Take it easy, if so far you haven't missed anything, you can throw them away !
I've never really heard of anyone labelling their moving boxes in quite that way so I'm not sure what it means. I have to admit the 'who cares' label had me laughing so, if you were crazy, it was funny crazy!
Sounds like you either hd way too much fun...or were way too stressed out.
Oh, man. We are moving next week and I'm about half packed. I'm so tired of it though and I really want to just do what you did. I have a friend who labeled all her moving boxes silly things like "brains" and "lightsabers" to confuse the people who helped her.
You are so funny. Seriously, I hate packing, and probably did things like that with my packing. I dread the day (but not really) when I get to unpack all of my stuff from my boxes!
OOoopsy. Guess it was one of those days... tee hee. Now it will be a scavenger hunt.
Maybe it was "stress" scribbling all those words on those boxes. I think you were overwhelmed with your move and released all your tension through your boxes! Haha! What you did was forgivable, every person has their "Kaboom" moments, even I had one. Honestly, I'm really not the most organized person in this planet, and I think packing is my weakness while “shoving” is my middle name. I shove everything in the box, then suffer the consequences afterwards. Haha!

I wonder what's going through your mind while writing that label on the package. You're kinda excited and stressed at the same time, maybe? How about the other boxes? Were the labels fine or you have written other strange labels there too? I know it's been months, but just take it easy. Organizing is much better with a cool head. :)
