Did you know I know how to fiddle on a roof?

OK. I technically don't. Really. But I do know how to be a matchmaker...

As in..."Matchmaker, Matchmaker, Make me a match, Find me a find, Catch me a catch...

...which is technically from Fiddler on the Roof so I think that kinda/sorta makes me a roof fiddler.

Don't you?

The reason I'm telling you this is because...

TaDa!

Meet Terri and John.

My only successful attempt at matchmaking. Ever.

Huh?

Of course there were never any UN-successful attempts at matchmaking, why do you ask?

Except for the one time that... oh, oops, never mind...of course you don't want to know about THAT time...and you certainly don't want to know about the time when...OK, just never mind.

We're going to focus on Terri and John. Geez, you certainly like going off on a tangent, don't you?

Ahem. Focus please. Terri. John. Three years ago today they got married at this charming, lovely country church...

...and all because of me.

Well, me and Progressive Farmer magazine.

So, here's what happened...

Some time back I suscribed to Progressive Farmer magazine. Yes, I live in a big city. No, I don't have a farm. Imagine my surprise when the first issue came and it was about growing soybeans and stuff like that. Mr. Jenny looked at me quizzically when I explained I had subscribed to it for recipes. He just raised his eyebrown, skimmed the magazine and handed it back.

Who knew that Progressive Farmer wouldn't have recipes? Geez.

But anyway...

Progressive Farmer magazine had an advertisement in it for Farmer Only which is an online dating and friendship personals for farmers, ranchers, cowboys, cowgirls, small town and country folks.

And I was totally intriqued by the concept...

However...

Mr. Jenny would not let me sign up for the dating services, so I threw the magazine away.

BUT...

That night I had a dream that Terri was going to meet a wonderful guy on the singles site there, so in the morning I dug it out of the trash, got the info and sent it to Terri.

Terri is this wonderful, amazing woman. At one point in my marriage when I was having some serious health complications I had recommended to Mr. Jenny that he marry her if I were to die (but that's a whole other story...I'm trying to stay focused here)...because Terri is beautiful, kind, compassionate, loving, musical AND she had never been married...

BUT Mr. Jenny was not enamored with the idea of me trying to be a Matchmaker for him while I was still alive (seriously, some people are so unappreciative)...

SO...

I not only sent her the info, I called her to tell her that I dreamed about it and she should sign up for the site.

She threw the info away.

But then...I think she dreamed about it, too, because she called me back for the info which I had thrown out again...

Matchmaking is a complicated business, I tell ya.

So I sent it to her AGAIN and she didn't do it!!!!!!!!!

BUT...after some gently intense, unrelenting nagging from me, she finally tried it!

AND...in her words here is what happened:

and one day I thought...ok..I'll give it a try. Absolutely out of character for me..I'm pretty shy. I signed up and started looking at some of the profiles and one stood out (there were lots to look at).....such a nice, kind smile....two hours later I received an e-mail from him!!!!!!!!...we e-mailed back and forth then he wanted me to call him....I called Jenny and asked what to do and she said "call him!"... then after awhile he wanted to meet...again Jenny was the mentor here too...and now were getting married. My first ---his second (he lost his wife 4 yrs. ago from ovarian cancer). Two grown children and two grandchildren...and they are all very sweet. He's a grain farmer (soybeans, hay, wheat)...about 500 acres and fertilizer salesman---I retired last year (early buy-out)...from a supervisory social work position.

When they met he was 64 and she was 54. I totally love that!

And the rest is history.

And since it is their Third Anniversary, I wanted to share this sweet story with you, too!

Roof Fiddler par excellence! What did I tell ya?!?

Oh, yea...

And Progressive Farmer Magazine totally rocks!

Even if it doesn't have any recipes...

Sigh...

PS. Terri and John? Happy Anniversary!

Why does this not surprise me in the least? It may look like I'm shaking my head in wonder but it's really all about trying to get that damn buzzing sound in my head to stop.

Happy 3rd Terri & John. Is it true soy beans build compassion?

What a great story, Jenny! Maybe you should buy a fiddle. I'm still laughing over the fact that you subscribed to Progressive Farmer for recipes :) Congratulations to the happy couple. Kat (btw, I LOVE that church!)

What a great match you made! Such a fun story too. Now, I have a few single friends -- wouldn't they be surprised with a subscription to a farming magazine for Christmas?

that is really a rather cool story! I love that she found love...and he of course too. I am really hoping though that none of my recent dreams actually come true most of them have been rather disturbing (I am talking about the nighttime sleepy dreams not the day dreams I pray for!!!)

Congratulations to Terri and John and to you for your matchmaking efforts. A very good story.

Hmmm, some of your less successful matchmaking stories might be interesting to hear about also.

You were definitely their Angel. What a sweet and precious story.

I just called The Commander and told him if I ever took a dirt nap before he did that he better not remarry because I would be a tough act to follow. I'm just sayin'.

Love ya!

great love story, I guess all it takes is for someone to take the first step even if just signing up, wondering if I should try it....

What a great story! I hope they have many more happy anniversaries!

Matchmaking is not one of my stong suits. A few years ago, a friend of ours got involved in an online dating site. I told him I would help him find the perfect woman, so I went on the site to make a list of women he should contact. My son walked in while I was doing this. He nervously asked me "Mom, why are you looking for women to date?" It took a little explaining.
