They say that necessity is the mother of invention...

I'm a mother.

And a grandmother.

And I have a necessity.

So I think I need to invent something.

I'm not sure how to go about it, though.

And then I'm not sure, beyond that, how to protect my invention so other people don't take it to China and make a zillion knock-offs to sell on the Home Shopping Network.

But let me get your opinion on this anyway.

This morning I woke up in extreme discomfort.

I had 'bent ear syndrome'.

I had slept all night with my ear kind of folded over and this morning it was tender and painful.

I shared my problem with Mr. Jenny. He said he had never encountered 'bent ear syndrome'.

I felt his ears. They were quite huge and cartillage-y (yes, huh, that is a word) so I suspect it only occurs for those of us, like me!, with small, attractive, nubile ears.

I suspect you have small, attractive, nubile ears so it's probably happened to you as well.

Perhaps you have also been distressed wondering how to protect yourself from 'bent ear syndrome' in the future.

Tell your ears not to fear. I think I have come up with a solution.

Whaddya think?

You can click on the picture to see the fine details more clearly if you like.

It's a great idea, right?

You've never seen these before, have you?

See!

Mother! Grandmother! Invention!

Now I just need to work on the patent and investor angle and I'm good to go!

Let me know if you want in on the deal!

You can have the sewing job. Think how fun it would be to put elastic into all those teeny, tiny ovals of soft, yet rigid, fabric!

Ummm.....Can't say that I've ever had this problem - and my ears are decidedly young and nubile and tiny. I do, however, think it would be good to have one of these on hand just-in-case - because if it could happen to you, it could happen to me! Will there be a surcharge for shipping to Canada?
While you're inventing, could you come up with something for that one lock of hair that sticks out in the morning? No matter how I sleep there's one bit that sticks up, making it a challenge for me to be as attractive as I know I can be first thing!

You are a nut. A loveable nut a that. You know...um ....you can probably use those mattress clips...you know the kind that has elastic between two clips that are used to keep your matress from riding up? ...You can use those to clip your ears back. Just put a cotton ball over your lobe flesh to keep the teeth from biting you and you can save a ton of money from mass producing them because they already sell them at Bed Bath and Beyond. Wahlah! .....you crazy girl!...A post a day huh? ~Ames

P.S. I actually have had the bent ear syndrome...once. Get a softer pillow.~Ames

Dear Jenny, can't say I've ever had that happen to me either. But you might be onto something with those small attractive nubile ear unbendy things for people who HAVE experienced such things...have a great day...and keep those ideas coming!

Jenny I have bent ear syndrome(lol) and think your invention is great. Take it to the Sharks on TV for funding...that would make my day! Hugs, Linda

I'll try it out for you:) I drool sometimes at night, work on that one too! Have a blessed day, HUGS!

Wow, never had that happen to me but you never know there's still time...good luck on getting the patent and all...blessings

Yep, I fear I've suffered from bent ear syndrome more than once.

Hey sweetie, why don't we attach it to a soft earplug? That way while we're protectin' our ears...we can also block the grizzly bear snores of our fellas. Kill two birds baby..........

Just sayin'..... Heeehehehehe!!! :o)

Have a great day Miss Jenny.

You've got me address...ya can just send my share there! :o)

Hahahahaha !

Nothing hurts so much ( oh, maybe a toothache is worse, depending how horrible it throbs ) as waking up to bent ear pain...you're hilarious and for record, I have big ears and had this happen a few times when I was young and supple ( I think my ears would get bruised, split or break off now ! )

Mrs. M said...

I've suffered from that (off and on) for years! Glad someone is finally inventing a cure!! :-)

Well, for goodness sakes...I'm not the only one?? It's just the bottom lobe that folds on me which acts kinda like an ear plug. So far, it's not driving me nuts.

Oh yeah, bent ears really hurt! Sometimes the pain wakes me up, although thankfully, not often. I'm not sure I would be in the market for some doodads to cover my ears, however. They would fall off and the cats would start playing with them and they would wind up under the bed...you get the picture!

Ms. A said...

Mine don't even have to be bent to hurt, they just hurt when I sleep on them!

I gotta say I have never experienced this syndrome. I guess I'm a wee bit lucky. and hey, didn't Snow White use birds and mice to do her sewing??? maybe hire them, after all, they are good with tiny details and they work for seeds or cheese .... who needs cheap China labour when we have little critters willing to do it and sing at the same time!

That is just too cute! My husband has had that problem several times, ...and his ears, dare I say it, ...are quite large. Gary's grandfather used to add to that saying about necessity being the mother of invention that "perseverance was its father", so hang in there! Hope you make millions!

I don't have "bent ear" so much as "I don't think I've moved all night and my ear feels like a warm piece of Play Doh." I do, however, suffer from "I slept on my ear with earplugs in for too long, and now I think it may be embedded in my ear permanently." Can you sew something for that, too, while you're at it?

Melinda said...

Nope never heard of it. BUT have experienced it! Not fun.

Hope you are better.

Just use a plaster every night and stick your ears to your head.
A tip of another grandma !

There's this guy I know who lives in China. He makes big bucks out of finding good ideas, manufacturing them by the gazillion and selling them on the shopping channel. Now, where did I pout his number..?

I woke up yesterday with bent ear and dead arm. Now what you have in the way of dead arm preventers?

Dear Nubile Ears,

I believe you could have something there!

I SAID, I BELIEVE YOU COULD HAVE SOMETHING THERE!

I have had bent ear syndrome, though only once or twice...you see in order to be afflicted with this you must actually

1. Sleep

2. Stay asleep in that position for more than 5 minutes

3. Sleep

So well, if you are restless or sleep doesn't come easy then this is not the product for you...

Fantastic idea to have such a pretty protection for "bent ear syndrome", although have never heard of it before :-)

I have an eight year old daughter. Nothing is going to save me from bent ear syndrome!

Could you make a larger one for elbows?

I have struggled with bent ear syndrome for years.....will you hurry up with the manufacturing please. Oh, and I'd love hot pink ones!

Annesphamily said...

That is painful! Ouch! I like that little idea! You better the patent pronto!
You are so sweet! I love knwoing you and visiting you!

I "think" I've had this condition once or twice in my life. Like, right now, I'm imagining the feeling and it's giving me the heebie-jeebies.

You've got a good product there. Do you think the "Sharks" (those people on TV) would go for it? :)

Pat said...

Okay - here's the deal...if I offer to do the sewing (and perhaps some additional custom quilting for anyone interested) will that provide me entry as an "upper level management" type investor? Awaiting your prospectus - I am all ears....non-bent...

You are definitely on to something here!!

I've had it, and it hurts!

Send me your prototype immediately.

LOL! I've not really encounted bent ear but I do get sore ones from my earrings that I don't take out on occasion, will the guard work for that?? LOL
