It's kind of a cool saying, isn't it?
I was thinking about that saying when I went for my walk yesterday.
You'd think that walking every day would get boring, but actually exciting stuff has been happening.
Like the old, glaring lady walking down the center of the road that I told you about earlier.
But she wasn't nearly as exciting as being within about 10" of becoming road kill from an out of control huge pick-up truck last week.
Really.
I'm not even making this up.
Ten. Inches.
From.
Being.
Smooshed.
I would write more about this but I'm still kinda/sorta traumatized from my near death experience.
I actually had to take a few days off walking to recover from a knee and a hip that didn't want to turn as quickly as I needed them to.
I had to try and not take it personally when Mr. Jenny called to confirm that my life insurance policy was still in effect.
Geez.
But after two days of repeating "I almost got killed" (in a whiny and dramatic voice) over and over again, I got right back on the walking wagon...
There were a couple of uneventful and kinda/sorta non-eventful walking mornings, but yesterday I got to assist in the rescue of a wild animal.
Okay.
It was a turtle.
But it was a big one.
AND I'm fairly certain it was all kinds of wild.
There it was, just sitting (do turtles actually sit?) right by the yellow line in the road.
(this is not the real turtle. The one in the street was much bigger and fiercer looking AND there is no yellow line in this picture AND there is not that much grass and trees within about 200 miles of my house)
Another lady on a bicycle and I stopped to figure out what to do with it.
Neither of us had a turtle catching net...
Both of us were afraid to pick it up. It could have been a snapping turtle...
So...
We both stood in the middle of the road and protected the little turtle fella from uproaching traffic.
"You pick it up and I'll watch for cars," I said.
"YOU pick it up and I'll watch for cars," she said.
Thank heavens a very nice man stopped, put his flashers on, grabbed some burlap out of the back of his vehicle and then HE picked up the runaway turtle while the other lady and I watched for cars.
Then we all walked together to one of the little man-made lakes in our neighborhood and the man gently lowered the turtle into the water.
He poked his little turtle-y head up and then zoomed away.
Ahhhh...
It was pretty sweet in a reptile-y sort of way.
The other heroic rescuers and I all smiled at each other, and then the man drove off, the woman got back on her bike and I turned my I-pod back on and finished walking home.
After I got home I realized that I really, really need someone to share all this drama with.
Mr. Jenny is still recovering from a broken foot and can't walk with me, so I was thinking maybe you and I could walk together.
It seems like a good idea, but if you're a sensitive soul, I'm not sure if you'd like to go with.
Because by the time I finish walking, my sweat is really, really crying.
Very, very hard.
And I'm not sure if that would upset you.
If you think you can handle all the weeping fat, please come...
And bring an assortment of life-saving, animal catching, old lady rescue devices along.
They might come in handy for the next walking adventure.

Sorry for your near death experience. Glad you survived and were able to go forth and rescue the turtle, which you would absolutely not have been able to do if you were roadkill.
If sweat if fat crying, does that mean it washes down the drain when you shower it off? Won't fat clog the drain? Keep the plumber's number handy!
OMG I perfectly understand!
I saw a huge porcupine during my walk the other day and I didn't want to touch him either.
Luckily he was not in the middle of the road. :)
You are as much fun as a barrel of monkeys.
Wish you were close enough. You could inspire me to make my fat cry.
If your hand could grasp the turtle shell, you could have picked him up by the back of the shell and rescued him very neatly. I don't think they can reach back that far to bite...I don't think they can.
Oh my... that is a lot of drama:) The near death experience, the turtle rescue, and all of that crying fat! I would love to walk with you, I could pull a wagon with lots of animal catching stuff in it! Hehe Have a blessed day, HUGS!
ok I am naive...I didn't know you had turtles in AZ!
I'm glad you and the turtle did not get hurt!
I don't know if I can take all of this excitement (scary drama!). The turtle story is the best. I'll just focus on that to keep my heart from pounding out of my chest!
It sounds like I would have to bring a red wagon to carry all the walking items.
I'm thinkin' maybe walking in a nice park might be the answer (probably wouldn't help the weeping fat). Hoping I'm linked now. If not, please let me know. Have a nice walk! Jan
I'm not sure whether to be creeped out or to laugh at the weeping fat saying xD Very glad that you weren't smooshed!

Oh yes, I'd love to walk with you, weeping fat and all. I have a vest that is very 'Indiana Jones' and could fill all the pockets with various bits and bobs of wild-animal-rescue equipment and emergency supplies for the walk (I'm a good girl-raised-in-the-north and always have a candle, a chocolate bar, flashlight, knife etc). Just call me.
I'd love to walk with you, but I'm not usually the one who is prepared for anything. Nevertheless, I'm sure we could have our own "Wonder Pets" moment.
A amazing post, Jenny! A respite from the verses that we find from the others. And best of all it's a real life drama many may not experience. It's sweet of you to help the turtle. But we must be mindful of putting ourselves in unnecessary danger when engrossed in a noble cause! Great write!
Hank
Correction: An amazing post...
Once again, you are my hero(ine).
And the turtle's, too!
;)
Aww, how nice of you to rescue the turtle. It may have been looking for a place to lay its eggs (they like the sandy spots close to roads....unfortunately). I hope you recover from getting "almost" run over by that truck....that happened to hubby once, but the guy had pretended to swerve on purpose as he drove away laughing!
Don't you have sidewalks there? My goodness. My girlfriend (next door neighbor) and I rescued a loose dog from the highway. We felt good about that too.
Sure wish my fat was sad. Really sad!~Ames
Well, do not sweat the fat, fat must be burned, you can also burn swimming without sweat.
Jenny, everyday is an adventure with you...so walking would be as well. SO glad you were not injured. {badly!} Maybe you should wear a helmet while walking?
Turtle always need rescuing. Where is superman when you need him? I carry old towels in my trunk for that reason....maybe you need to carry some too? Or a net?
YOU rock.
xoxox
Glad you and the turtle both escaped bodily harm, Jenny...my blogging world would never be the same without you and your tangents!
walking isnt such a safe activity is it? I'm afraid to go out now because of the number of coyotes in my neighbourhood ... but you ... keep walking, watch out for bad drivers, they are everywhere ... and keep up with the reptile rescue!!!
NOw that you've cried out all that fat, there is room to tuck a camera in your back pocket so we can meet all your walking buddies :)
I'll join you!
What exciting walks you have, but not always in a good way though. I'll pass on the almost-getting-smooshed.
Someone ran over the side of my foot in a parking lot once. That took some talent! No, I wasn't really hurt.
Once on vacation, my family and I rescued a turtle from the middle of the road.
You know there are people who would just run that turtle over for the fun of it.
And oh yes, I just the other day heard that saying about fat crying. I say, Bring on the tears!
you're my hero for saving the turtle. He will thank you in your second life, and I will thank you now! {:-D
Dear Jenny,
All I can say is life is definitely not boring for you! I'm glad you and the turtle are both ok. I need to start getting out more...who knew walking could be so...errr...eventful! Please be careful Jenny. You're much too precious to us. Thanks for sharing.
