Fame and Fortune...

...have eluded me yet again.

Darn.

I hate when that happens.

So...

Earlier in the month I was all excited because this really cool childrens story contest site selected one of my submissions for the November contest. My entry was based on a previous Alphabe-Thursday post, so I thought it would be fun to share it here.

This children's story site is really neat because they tape a child actually reading your submission. Since the contest is based in the UK, the children read in the sweetest little accents. (OK, if you're from across the pond I know you think you don't have an accent...charming or not...but to me...you do...and it is like listening to music and I love that little lilt when you talk...)

...and not just because my first boyfriend, ever, was an English feller who played the guitar and serenaded me outside my bedroom window and...

...and...

...can you hold on a second here?

...

...

OK. I'm back. I had to go get a glass of cold water...

And dump it over my head...

...and...

...

What the heck was I talking about here?

Oh. Yea. English boyfriend and...

Focus, Jenny, focus.

...

Ahem...

OK.

Where was I?

Yea.

I was telling you about this contest. So the way it was supposed to work was the story that got the most 'views' for the month won some money. I was planning to browbeat you all into listening to my little story every day so I could totally win...

Except...

I got an e-mail from the contest people who said they had run out of money.

WHAT????

How can this be?

But they said they would still record my story and put it up in November (don't worry, I'll remind you about a bazillion times what day it is so you can go oooh and awwwww over it later)...because even though I can't win money I can jump up and down in excitement when I get to hear my little recorded story.

So...alas...although I may have momentary fame which probably doesn't count at all...

I will not, sadly, have fortune either.

But it's all good.

If I would have gotten fame AND fortune then I would get all big headed and conceited and be unable to blog anymore because my nose would be up in the air and I wouldn't be able to see my keyboard.

So all in all the whole thing ended well.

And...

You will be happy to know that my little link to Alphabe-Thursday's is now ending as well.

It's probably just as well, Jenny, that you didn't win big bucks because your poor friends, like me ( who are getting more and more financially strapped by the day), would be holding out their hands for a donation. I'd love to read the story, though.

Aw, thats really cute! can't wait to hear it.

Great news about your story being recorded. And money would just corrupt you...the contest folks knew that somehow, and spared you from a fate that has befallen many of the affluent.

I know they have MY thanks.

You'd better remind us! I wouldn't want to miss the fame part, even if there's no fortune attached.

Can't wait to hear your story and in the meantime I'll try not to rub it in that I have that English boyfriend in real life. :)

I had to get a glass of water and pour it over MY head! Sorry about the lack of funding. But isn't it really the thought that counts? Ya, I know.

BTW my first 4 boyfriends were English and played in a band, and sang to me too...in my living room, on vinyl. I still miss George and John...

Well, having the fame and fortune MAY have been too much to bear......but I'd sure like to take that jump, wouldn't you? Just a little attention....a little cash....a little more attention....a lot more cash.
Yea, I think that could definitely make me feel good.

Anyhow, look forward to hearing the story! LOVE your Blog!

ok that was a sad and frustrating story! sometimes things don't work out the way we had hoped...
but what a really cool site, even if they don't know how to manage their money... we all already know you're an amazing writer! (:

Can't wait to hear a little English-accented voice reading your work! I'd say that's pretty cool even without the money!!

(The English accent is definitely the clincher when it comes to coolness.)

=)

I adore British accents! I will definitely listen to your story. Maybe if enough people listen to it anyway, you'll become an internet sensation and that will lead to fame and fortune!

I can't wait to hear the story. It will be fun to heat it with a cute British accent.

Amy said...

oh, that brittish boyfriend sounds dreamy! How did he not spoil you for other men? The accent, the guitar? the singing? Wow.

Can't wait to hear your story! I wish you had won money with it, but at least you have the fame part and fortune will be following soon afterward.

And then you can make all of us wealthy by talking us up, and we could eventually be wealthy by association.

Fortune would be a nice addition to your fame. :)

Hmmm...Did I like the part about the kids recording your work, making you "famous" or did I like the part about the hot English, guitar playing boyfriend better?

Keep at it...the writing and submitting, that is. :)

Oh Jenny your post made me giggle so much!

I am sorry the contest people ran out of money but you know, here in the UK we are in deep recession so I suppose £10 could only stretch so far!

As far as the English accent goes, well I have one - being English I suppose thats logical.

I travel to the States a couple of times a year and am always tickled pink by the comments I get about my accent, as to me, it's just the way I speak.

But perhaps I should record my blog posts! The majority of my readers are North American - so I could see my stats soar as you all flock to hear my rounded vowels and clipped constonants ! LOL

H said...

No, no, no, no, NO!!!! Dearest Jenny, we English do NOT have an accent!! We have MANY accents from Geordie to Scouse, Yorkshire to Norfolk, West Country to Essex, and London Cockney to ear-grating Brum; plus all of the ones in-between! Put a Scouser, a Geordie and a Cockney in the same room and you would find it hard to believe they all come from the same country!

I look forward to hearingyour story. I bet it will be read in standard southern English.

Oh brother! Oh well, I guess it's art for art's sake! Maybe they can box up an accent for you, so you can hear it whenever you want!

1. I looove your accent! My response - I love yoour accent!
2. Being ID'd for alcohol (I'm 44!) Marvellous makes me feel so young.
I look forward to reading your story and if you're not happy with the chosen accent me and the girls will do it for you :)
