I'm feeling kinda/sorta depressed now that it's fall...

...because...

...I'm being all kinds of shallow here and I'm bored with my stuff.

Not all my stuff, but some of my stuff.

You know?

This weekend I went to Target. I haven't been there in awhile. They have the coolest Halloween stuff.

And I want it.

Oh, I'm not being greedy...I don't want it all...I just want most of it...

Because, frankly, my Halloween stuff is kinda/sorta boring.

Oh sure, I thought the witch statues were cool when I got them umpteen years ago but ... now, I've definitely been there...done that...

And admittedly, while all the various pumpkins in my 'pumpkin collection' are cool, they're not nearly as cool as the ones I saw at Target today.

And my green witches hand is... okay...well, that's still pretty cool and I need to hang onto that...purple glittery nails! green hand! Seriously, what's not to love?

But other than the green witches hand I think I truly really, really need more stuff.

And I would probably have actually bought something, if it wasn't for my husband.

The poor, deluded man actually thinks Halloween stuff is all the same. He doesn't see the beauty and nuance in small changes over the years...

He doesn't understand the deep compelling passion I feel to own one of each vintage metal sign that Target has to offer.

He doesn't comprehend how I can painfully covet a set of glittered pumpkins that are a richer, deeper orange than the glittered pumpkins I already have.

Sigh...

He also doesn't understand that I want to run amuk, cash in our retirement fund and fill multiple shopping carts full of all the Halloween stuff at Target. And don't even get me started on some of the cool stuff at Joanne Fabrics.

Sigh...

And he doesn't understand that although I tell myself things are horrible in the world right now and some people don't even have a single glittered pumpkin and that I should turn away from consumerism and embrace a simple, gracious lifestyle with hand-painted decorations and hand-carved pumpkins...

I can't.

I just can't help myself.

So I am chaining myself to my desk until after Halloween so I won't succumb to my strong compulsion to run amuk, cash in our retirement fund and fill multiple shopping carts full of all the Halloween stuff I like at Target and Joanne Fabrics.

Sigh...

So tomorrow I guess I'll get out my Halloween decorations anyway.

And put them all out.

Unless maybe you just ran amuk at Target and Joannes and brought all the cool stuff home and now realize you really don't like it and wish you had kept your old Halloween decorations.

If that's the case...

I'd totally be willing to help you out and trade.

Even Steven.

Except for the green witches hand.

I'll just hold onto that...

...because I'm pretty sure you wouldn't have liked it anyway.

Sigh...

Yeah. I'm shallow.

I have serious Halloween decoration envy.

You could always start crafting up your own creations!

This reminded me that you won the "boo " banner last year. Wow, I can't believe it's been a year already!

I still have two boxes of Halloweeen decs in the basement. I haven't decorated in years! You've just inspired me to get the stuff put out. Thanks, Jenny. Now I have to dust and vacuum because one can't have all the oohs and aahhs without a clean house! No, really, thank you!

The hand is to die for! I love the nail polish.

My kids keep wanting to do Halloween decorations, but we've never had any, except for our hand carved jack o' lanterns. I don't have the room to store stuff that is only going to be used two weeks a year. They are lucky they get a Christmas tree! The witch hand is pretty cool.

If this is your biggest worry today, you are a blessed.

(I'm guessing it's not. More's the pity.)

Oh, oh, oh. I feel the same way at times. It so hard to resist the urge to gather all the shiny new decor put out each holiday. They look lovely sittin' on the shelves. Maybe 1 new lovely will be okay....can't resist. :)

You are too cute:) I have some new decorations from Target BUT I buy them at the end of the Season when they are DIRT cheap! Deal with the old stuff this year and after Halloween go get 'choo some new sparkly goodies! Enjoy your day dear Jenny, HUGS!

You're hilarious! That charming display at Target gets me every year - and the really funny part is - I DETEST HALLOWEEN!!! What I generally do, because I SO GET you on the "old decor" thing,, is, I have this fun boutique I frequent downtown and when the holiday "stuff" goes on sale, to a ridiculously near give-away price,, I grab one new "thing" and voilla' , next year, I'm delighted as can be.. And husband is thrilled because our 401K is entact

Yes, definitely hang onto that hand! I don't have a single hallowe'en thing out this year. No kids come up our long, country driveway and no grandkids live in town. But....my big surprise (you're hearing it here first!) is that I'm getting on a plane and heading east next week and will spend three days with said Grandkids OVER HALLOWE'EN!! Yippee!!!
PS I think that ONE new glittery pumpkin isn't over the top.

Oh Jenny, you’re feeling kinda/sorta,depressssed! well I am completely without a doubt feeling the blues with "Shall we head to the beach being replaced by, “Is the snow blower ready? Should we replace the old snow shovels, got buy salt for the sidewalks, “No I don’t want to put the deck furniture away, NOT YET! Not to forget I DREAD winter driving!" But on the bright side, oh yeah, I have to get some of those cool green hands! They ARE Awesome!

I'm amazed that Halloween becomes a bigger celebration every year. For some people, it even rivals Christmas for fun. But then, when Santa has to compete with a green hand...

I am right there with you wanting the same thing. I don't even have anywhere to put the stuff I do have and yet, I want MORE DECOR!

You are not alone in feeling depressed! I will say I love the Fall, Halloween and Thanksgiving decor though.

I still "liked" my stuff til I started seeing the unbelievable decorating going on in Blogland and on Pinterest!! I did buy a cute witch at Ross last week, though. Have to share with you for 'non-Alphabe-Thursday' this week :) xo

I hear 'ya Jenny and was feeling kind of silly oogling over Target's and Joanne's Halloween offerings this year but then thought, "Wait until the stores open the DAY AFTER Halloween and get everything half or more off...then toss the old stuff for the new, stylin' stuff to decorate with next year !"

"Alone again.... naturally!" said...

I have the same envy Jenny! I have looked at stuff at Micheal's etc., and covet it all!! It's not fair that all my halloween stuff is stuck unused in a locker because halloween does not come to condo's....no giving out of candy or anything! Can we all say booooo!!

My weakness, for some reason, is Thanksgiving decorations. They just make me happy. And I believe I have more of them than any five of my friends combined.

Okay, any 15 of my friends...

*sigh*

I've got an idea. You go out to the store and buy some stuff, bring it home, and see if you like it. If you don't, take it back and get a refund. You can see how it might work with what you do have and how it might "enhance" it. You know? Nothing wrong with that, I think. ;-)

XO,

Sheila

My house is such an overcrowded, cluttered mess, I wouldn't even be able to access the decorations I used to have around here... somewhere.

Miss Jenny - thinking we all have a craving for something new. It is part of being female & guys just don't get it. Me? I have 5th wheel envy. Every time I see a Montana, BigHorn, Challenger or other spiffy RV on the road, the urge to pull them over & hijack their unit hits me. Afterall our own RV is a 1998 model, wearing out after 3 bone jarring trips over the Alaska Highway & many other trips. Yes, I understand Halloween envy - mine just has more wheels.
:o)

I can't go into Target near any holiday because I want everything. I mean.. everything. They do it on purpose, I just know they do... RESIST! Put out your pretty Halloween decorations and treasure them for someday they will probably be popular again and Target will have them on the shelf.

Stef said...

You see, that is why I can't go into that place. They have so much cool stuff. I just have to stay away...... They have some great wrapping paper come Christmas......... MUST STAY AWAY.

Oh Jenny Sweetie...
You are so darn creative, I think you just need to get busy and recreate some of the ones you have. Swap them around a little. Switch heads, or add some legs and arms to a pumpkin. I know you can do this. I am challenging your mind. Come on now. When you get through recreating with what you have, then run down there and purchase that green witches hand, I think DH would agree, you would have earned it.

Okay, I can't wait to see what you recreate. I will be waiting and watching.

Hope you have a glorious week sweetie. I am so happy with my new computer and being able to blog again. Still trying to make my rounds. Many hugs and much love, Sherry

If it makes you feel any better, my old stuff is still stashed in a cabinet....not feeling halloween this year.
ps. I love your old stuff....I bet the kids do too!!!

Lol!! Such a great and truthful post! I feel the same way every single year when all the new holiday decorations hit the stores. However, I WANT IT ALL!! So, I control myself until all the decorations go on sale 1/2 price than I have a "mini" splurge for a few things for next year. Then when you open your boxes next year you will be so happy. Until you go to Target....

Blessings

I have holiday decoration envy for those that do buy and take the time to decorate with what they buy. I never do. I see tons I like buy I'm too lazy to take it out and put it away every year so I never do. It saves me some money I guess so for once my procrastination/laziness is a good thing!

Ames said...

Oh lordy woman. You must be younger at heart than me. I used to have that "I've just got to have that" attitude but then, Mr. Ames never helps me decorate any Holiday and the thought of climbing up into a hot attic and pulling down all those boxes of stuff that I will also have to haul back up there does something to my "spirit".
Oh I had a Hallowen tree, a bone yard in the flower bed with tombstones, the creepy music playing from the garage, a witches spell desk and I even changed out the china in the hutches to Halloween stuff. But I 'm not feeling the "spirit." Now when I go to Target and Marshall's and TJ Maxx I look at all that cute stuff and think, "I already have that and that and that and I have no where to store it except up in that hot attic." I then walk away , money still in my wallet.

You gotta get in the mind set of asking yourselk...Do I need this?...Or do I want this??? I bought candy so what else do the little monsters want from me???~Bah Halloween!~Ames

I say you put some nyquil in Mr. Jenny's drink in the morning and after he falls asleep, you run to Target and get the stuff. Turn in your old stuff to The Salvation Army or whatever thrift stores you have by you. There will be a ton of people that would love your old stuff.

See, stick with me sista. I would totally go with you if I lived by you. I'd even help put the old man asleep for about 4 hours. yeah, I have insulin. bwaa-haa-haa.
(ok, seen one to many law & order shows)

Hallowe'en is not so big over here and I must admit to being quite pleased about that. As a result, I don't have a single decoration!

Roll on Bonfire Night!! Guy Fawkes burning atop the bonfire, fireworks lighting up the sky, sparklers, treacle toffee :D

I was doing fairly well with autumnal decor.....until this morning when I ordered 5(fabric) pumpkins to be made in autumnal colors. Of course, I did it JUST to support the entrepreneurial efforts of a struggling artist...

....yeah. right.

My sister is a Halloween deco nut! Her favorite hangout is Hobby Lobby.

Since we live in the country, I don't decorate for Halloween. There's no one to see it. And most of it is pretty junky, to be truthful. Sorry. Just trying to make you feel better. :)

Jennifer said...

if it makes you feel better, we have no decorations in our house.

Hi Jenny,

It could always be worse... You could live in a place where stores don't even have all those treasures on the shelves... You could live -- here!

Isn't the Halloween decoration on sale right after Halloween? Why don't you buy something nice then? I know I would do that if I could. ;)

When you look at your Halloween decoration next time, just think of me and my even more modest decorations. Does that help a little? ;)

Hugs,
Birgit

PS: And, yes, you certainly deserve some new Halloween decoration. (And I am looking forward to seeing photos on your blog.)

I always have holiday decor envy because I don't have any space to keep much. I bet I have room for that green witch hand though ;)
