I'm trying to be sweeter.

Somedays it's hard, though.

Because I'm done with summer.   And I'm hot.   And menopause is stupid.  And blah, blah, blah.

Last night Mr. Jenny asked me what was for dinner.

"I don't know," I retorted semi-snarkily.   "What are you planning on making?"

"Do we have any chicken?"

"Yes, but it's frozen."

"Ummmm...do we have any burgers?"

"Yes, but they're frozen."

"Okay.   Do we have anything that's not frozen?"

Geez.   The guy is persistent.  "Yes, we have lettuce.   And eggs.   And maybe some mustard.  Sound good?"

I think Mr. Jenny thought I was being sarcastic and...

Okay.

Yeah.

I WAS being sarcastic.

What is it with this dinner planning thing and why does it roll around so darned frequently?

Sigh.

Anyway.

Mr. Jenny finally realized I wasn't planning on cooking anytime soon.

"I'll run to Chipotle.  Brown rice, green salsa and veggies.  No cheese.  Right?" he enquired sweetly.

"Yup, that would be great!"

And then I stopped for a second.

Gosh.

Mr. Jenny is really sweet.

And I AM lucky to have such a thoughtful husband.

I realized that perhaps, just perhaps, I was being a little grumpy.

"Thanks, sweetie," I told him.  "Be careful on the way.  I love you so much.  I would totally die without you.  You are my everything."

Mr. Jenny paused at the doorway to my office.

"And?" he said suspiciously.  "And?"

"And nothing.    Can't I just be nice to my husband without being interrogated.  Gosh.  Love you.   Die without you.   You're my everything...you know...I mean it."

He softened.

And smiled at me sweetly.

I smiled back.

And then I waved my hand at him and told him, "Go!   Go!  Hurry up!  I'm starving!"

He sighed.

Twice.

Geez.

Some people do NOT appreciate the tender side of menopausal women.

Geez.

Don't guess you could get away with the sarcastic/tender moments everyday and never cook again?

We're having leftovers today. I WILL have to heat them up though...menopausal excuses for me are long gone.

my hubby calls me every night on the way home. his one simple question to me is... "do i need to stop somewhere before i get home?" --> which means. did you cook or do i need to get take out.

i wish him plenty of luck for when i'm going thru menopause whilst my two girls are teenagers...

I am so with you....but is there a sweeter side to menopausal women??
Sometimes I think it is a good thing my hubby is away so much, but then he gets the snarkiness on the phone...sigh!

Sweet, understanding hubbys are so nice to have around. I wish I could figure out a way to get mine to go get something to eat so I didn't have to cook. Hang in there sweet Jenny. Hugs

What a guy! And you, too! Not a guy, but what a woman!

Leftovers are a given in this family! I couldn't exist without them!

You are a sweet couple!

I haven't commented in so long! I asked my doctor if I was in pre-menopause. He laughingly said any woman not in menopause is pre-menopause! Okay...well I get the struggle of meal planning. I get the aggravation of always being the one to cook. I also have a sweet husband like you that tries but sometimes doesn't get it!

I'm so glad I stopped by...it's been a long while. I'm now back in India again, for the second time! Was only home 2-1/2 months before returning, this time to Jaipur...for almost a six month stay. If you saw, "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel", Jaipur is the city it was in which it was filmed. If you haven't seen it, go with Mr. Jenny...it was delightful.

I was completely menopausal at 45...that was 22 years ago so I can barely remember back then. I guess I was so crochety long before that my husband exited the scene ( before I could end up at San Quentin ).

I try to keep up with the blogging...when I can. My internet connection is so slow .. one of these USB things that, sometimes, takes 30 minutes to upload five photos!

Namaste, Miss Jenny, you're as terrific as ever!!!

Hmm. I'm way past menopausal but once in a while (okay, fairly often) I still get a bit snarky and snarky or not I sometimes just DO NOT feel like cooking. Wish we had a Chipotle closer to home. We order pizza a little too often.

Jenny, it's been so long since I went through mentalpause and I don't think I've been sweet since before it all started. After all, look what I call my blog! LOL!

You will get past the stage of being snarky due to menopause and become a cement wall that can't be breached when you don't want to do something. Post menopausal women are the really scary ones! ~ Maureen

You are so funny! Good luck with the menopause. Women have it hard. Seriously. PMS, pregnancy, menopause? So not fair. You are so lucky to have such a wonderful husband!

OMG too funny.

Well, I don't know what stage of meno YOU are in but I can tell you that I have been 10 degrees hotter than the rest of the younger world for years now. And many years ago my hair changed...now it has finger waves in it. Then I started growing pubic hair sort of hair around my ears. Then my hair just would not do bangs anymore...even wispy ones
I could stand all of that since it came slowly in stages but the morning that I woke up with some one else's eyelids was enough. That was just too weird.

The tone here is fabulous and the sarcasm and tension well paced.

Wonderful piece.
