Get your motor running...

...so you can head to Lowes to buy some paint stripper.

We heard a rumor that one of our neighbors was moving and they were going to have a garage sale yesterday.

So...

I made Mr. Jenny get out of bed and come with me.

We drove by the house but there were no signs out and so we wandered through the rest of our neighborhood looking for garage sales. We stopped at some...nothing cool...

And when we went back by the neighbors house, the side gate was open and there was a small cardboard sign by the road that said "Garage Slae".

I figured that was close enough, so we went in the gate.

Ummm...

OK. These people have seriously wayyyy too much money. He is an attorney and most of their stuff was pretty contemporary. But dirt cheap. And we got to see the entire house in the process of her showing us the things for sale! I always love a free house tour when I can get one!

On the way through my husband spied a really cool old-fashioned desk chair which he grabbed for 20 bucks and I saw this bench and table set. It is made out of an old bed.

I told Mr. Jenny I was going to buy it for 40 bucks. He looked puzzled.

This is probably why.
But look how cool the set is. Minus the HD flame stuff.

The lady we bought it from said she had paid someone 200 dollars to paint it up with the Harley logo.

And I'm probably going to pay 10 bucks for stripper to take it off!

We also bought a bookcase and a bunch of kids books and some cool measuring spoons and a giant wicker hamper.

I'm linking this post up to Debbie Doo's Week 3 of Garage Salen! You can visit her blog but just clicking here!

Talk about a diamond in the rough!....you should get the prize for Best Garage Sale Find of the week. Let's see pictures when you've got it stripped - and if it was mine, I wouldn't be able to get it stripped fast enough!

I agree with Deb, don't strip, just prime and re-do. Then show us...

Didn't your neighbor just have a garage sale! I told you when they see you headed out of the house, they put out their goods!

BTW - don't strip...just prime and you will be fine!

That is a wonderful bench and table and I can just see the look on Mr Jenny's face! Can't wait to see it re-done!!!

What a FIND!! Even though I really appreciate the talent it took to paint that Harley Davidson stuff, I have to admit it's not my cup of tea. It'll be gorgeous when you finish with it.

Stripping vs. priming? Well, if you run your hand across the paint job and can feel the outline of the design, you'll either want to strip it or sand it until it feels smooth. You don't have to sand all the paint off...just the "ridgey parts) Then prime and paint.

Why do the garage sales by me have nothing but junk? They're still fun to hit though!

Why on earth would you want to strip this great paint job? You could sell this for twice what you paid and buy another that doesn't need to be stripped!

anxious to see what you find under that and what you do with it! Very cool find!

The bench-and-table set is really cool, but 200 dollars for painting? Oh wow.

I've got a bed frame I could do that to!

I am always a day late and a dollar short at garage sales. I can only remeber one that I feel the Lord blessed me with finding as I was able to find some great grand kids toys, shelves and home decor that went with my style of decorating. We had just moved and I was short on money for decorating. For sixty dollars I furnished two rooms and the grands used the toys for years!

Now that you have had your garage sale and have emptied things out - now you can go to garage sales and fill it up again.

Just kidding. Nice find.

I'd rather have the HD motorcycle then the bench but the talent to paint it is very cool although where the heck would you put that gaudy thing???!!!

I will patiently wait to see your updated bench.

Very cool and there are way too many people with way too much stuff!

I am extremely envious of your access to that yard sale.....and I'm sure that's a sin.....and it's Sunday, so it's probably double strikes against me. Oy.

I'm glad you took photos of the flames and the HD....describing it without them would have fallen flat.

You may tour my home any time. I may even sell you stuff.

I've never caught the garage sale bug but you may make a believer out of me yet!

I can honestly say I have never come across anything with so much potential. It really is a gorgeous bench, or it will be once it stops burning, hahahaha!

I can see some really cute ideas to do with the table and chair...please post after the stripper to let us know what you came up with

Lourie said...

I can't wait to see what you do with it!!

Nadeen said...

Don't you dare tell Papa Bear that you would even consider paying someone to take a Harley-Davidson logo OFF of something. Not a word, ya hear?

Mardell said...

I was thinking of Dee's husband, Kerry when I saw that bed bench! It would be perfect in his garage! :o)

I have to wonder about someone paying $200 to have it painted like that...hmmm. It is going to be great when you get done with it-can't wait to see it.
